5 Suits Spider-Man Could Wear in the MCU

We all know by now that Spidey is finally coming home to the MCU (if you don't, seriously, where have you been?!). What we don't know is what his suit will look like. Marvel have been very secretive about their flagship superhero's appearance in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film, which I think is brilliant as it allows us to be surprised when we finally see it. The mystery adds to the excitement. I remember the previous Spider-Man films all released images of the costume very early in production (which was not necessarily a bad thing - they were amazing!), but the most we have had so far is a tease from Kevin Feige:

I was more involved in the Raimi ones, and think they did a very good job. But that being said, we’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before. And yet ours is classic Spidey, as I think you’ll see.

Marvel has a tough act to follow. Despite its flaws, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had an absolutely wonderful representation of Spidey's costume. The Sam Raimi trilogy's suit was not bad either! Here I want to list a few suits that he could wear, I'd like to start with versions that he could make himself...

Scarlet Spider

In the comics, the Scarlet Spider was the original identity Ben Reilly used before taking over the mantle of Spider-Man. Ben was the perfect clone of Peter Parker, who came back into Peter's life after he learned that Aunt May was ill. At first, Peter and Ben do not get along, but ultimately Ben is forced into action and is dubbed the Scarlet Spider by the press. The reason I think this is a potential costume for the new Spidey is because it is somewhat makeshift, a red bodysuit with a hoody over the top. If the rumours are true that Spider-Man will have 2 costumes in Civil War, then perhaps his first one will be a more homemade one instead of a fully polished costume. The basic nature of this costume is something simple and also an iconic nod to the fans.

The Bombastic Bag-Man

Go with me on this! This is a suit Peter wears after ridding himself of the Venom symbiote (see my previous post). After the symbiote leaves, Peter finds himself in need of a way to hide his identity so he borrows a suit from the Fantastic Four and sticks a bag over his head. Now, I know Marvel doesn't have the rights to the Fantastic Four (yet, if reports are to be believed), and I also find the costume pretty absurd. BUT it is perfectly plausible that Tom Holland's 15 year-old incarnation of the web-slinger could have a very makeshift costume. One of the issues with the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man is that Peter's costume was too perfect. How could a high school kid with no prior sewing knowledge make that? The Amazing Spider-Man tried to rectify this with his original costume that was an original design, so why wouldn't Marvel try something similar?

The rumours of the second costume imply that Peter will receive it from Iron Man, so I'll move on to more polished costumes now...

Iron Spider

How could I not mention this one? In the original Civil War story, Peter is given this by Iron Man. Depending on how accurately the film will follow the comic there is every chance that we will see a cinematic version of this costume. It has the usual range of Tony Stark gadgets as well as 3 retractible legs. If Tony Stark does indeed give Peter a suit, it is very believable that it will have a range of gadgets to help out the young superhero. During the original story, Peter becomes suspicious that Stark will want to use this costume to control him. So, he tampers with it to create an override to his controls - perhaps this could be a way to demonstrate Peter's intelligence in the MCU.

The Black Suit

The Black Suit

For years, the black suit has been a staple of Spider-Man's wardrobe. I know a version of this appeared in Raimi's Spider-Man 3, but I feel they didn't do it justice. It was merely a black version of his regular suit. The suit has an iconic design and while not necessarily being used in Civil War, there is every chance that somewhere along the line it could be introduced. And who knows, perhaps in the future we will have an MCU Venom...

Superior Spider-Man Mk II

During the time that Peter Parker's body was inhabited by the mind of Otto Octavius, Spider-Man took a very different approach. Otto had his own ideas about how to be a hero and, as such, created his own take on the costume. This version had a number of features that Peter's original design did not have, ranging from a heads-up display in the eyes to retractible claws on the fingers. This costume, of course, featured 4 additional legs that Otto could use to climb buildings or remove his street clothes quickly. Again, this costume has enough gadgets that it is something Stark could have made to give to Peter.

These are just some of the costumes I think could be realistically used in the MCU. Of course, I am sure we will get a version of his original costume, but if Marvel fancied taking a different approach there are plenty of choices they could make.
