Friends is an American TV sitcom, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. The show revolves around six friends living in Manhattan. There are many theories around the internet about the show, most of which are interesting.

1. The entire show is Phoebe's meth-addled fantasy.

This is one of the most famous theories ever made about this show. Somebody caused a Twitter storm by pitching a new Friends finale in which Phoebe is actually a homeless meth addict who imagined it all. Her "friends" are strangers who refer to her as "the crazy lady who always stares at us." Lastly, next to the park bench where Phoebe sleeps lie the six umbrellas that are shown in the show's opening credits.

2. Monica is only Ross's half-sister.

Now this theory is actually my favorite. Ross was always the favorite Gellar child while his younger sibling Monica is always criticized by her mother Judy. One Reddit user has come up with a genius explanation as to why. Monica was actually the product of an affair, meaning that Jack is not her real father, which makes Ross only her half-brother. Judy feels guilty and is ashamed over the fling causing her to lash out at Monica. It also explains why Ross is way more into his Jewish heritage since her real father probably wasn’t Jewish.

3. It was all in Rachel's mind all along.

Similar to the first theory, this theory suggests that Rachel is anxious about her upcoming wedding to Barry and actually imagined the entire series. The image from the season four home video box set is actually the basis of the idea. Phil Dunne on Twitter came up with this response: "Rachel Green had a dream on the eve of her wedding day. She didn't want to marry Barry so she had a major anxiety dream. She created a fantasy in her mind and the five other Friends characters as a way to escape her spoiled, trapped future life."

4. The One Where Ben Geller Can Predict the Future

Reddit user GhandiHadAGrapeHead explains: “In the episode where Rachel and Monica look after Ben, they accidently hit his head. Ben then goes on to say ‘Monica bang,’ which worries Monica because he might repeat it in front of Ross. But I think Monica misheard Ben.” He continues: “If you listen to him say it, I think Ben actually says ‘Monica Bing,’ which of course will go into being her surname after she marries Chandler. So there you have it. That knock to the head made the innocent little child a powerful little wizard.”

5. The One Where Monica Geller Was Used as a Drugs Guinea-Pig

Reddit user TheLuckyGal believes that there’s more to Monica’s back-story than we all realized. She explains: “During flashbacks when Monica was overweight, it was never shown that she was obsessed with cleanliness and organizing everything. When Ross and Rachel talk about the past they have mentioned how fat and competitive Monica was, but never said anything about her obsession with cleanliness.” She then goes on to suggest that Monica trialed a special weight loss drug while she was at fat camp, which affected her hormones. This resulted in OCD and infertility. She also adds: “In the episodes 'The One That Could Have Been 1&2,' where the Friends imagine an alternate reality where Monica is still fat, Joey becomes a star, Rachel marries Barry, etc, there is no instance of fat Monica being obsessed with cleanliness. She seems much happier and relaxed compared to thin Monica.”

6. Ross lost his mind and his son.

DF Lovett wrote in a blog post that Ross may have lost custody of his son Ben at some point towards the end of the show. This theory kind of makes sense and would explain why Ben doesn't appear in the final two seasons of Friends, not even to meet his baby half-sister Emma. At that time, Ross's behavior grows more and more extreme. He tries to kiss his first cousin, he sleeps with one of his college students, he attends a self-defense class so he can "attack" his female friends, and all that and more could've led to Ross losing his son.

7. Chandler died and turned into a balloon.

This one even has its own video. It’s mostly a piece of fan fiction rather than an actual fan theory. It posits a "lost" episode where Chandler dies after being hit by an ice-cream truck. The "episode" then shows each of his friends' long-term reactions to his death as represented by an eerie balloon.
