While many of us (particularly ladies) are allured by chick flicks where Prince Charming and his “damsel in distress” fall head over heels in love, bravely face the agonizing dilemma of being torn apart, and ultimately rejoice in reunion towards the end of the series, there is a whole group of people who prefer to revel in nauseating blood-bath scenes full of undead zombies, possessed-with-evil deadites, and brimming with darkseekers (a hybrid between a vampire and a zombie).

Although these die hard fans of some of the most stomach-turning and blood drenched serials broadcasted on TV might claim that nothing comes even remotely close to being as good as their favorite TV shows, believe us when we say that there are many shows out there offering the same zombie-awesomeness and vampire-eeriness that The Walking Dead or The Vampire Diaries offer.

We are talking about the best horror anime TV shows which, in all likelihood, are some of the most underrated yet fascinating sources of thrill and shrill! The journey of Japanese animation which started with Momotaro’s Divine Sea Warrior has now evolved into a blooming industry for the country. The best horror anime TV shows will undeniably give you a true to life taste of those horror-induced goose bumps!

Another is a 12 episode long TV series inspired by the mystery and horror novel penned by Yukito Ayatsuji.

The plot of this series is quite similar to that of the American horror franchise Final Destination, which involves a round of mysterious and bloody murders. The star character of the series, Kouichi Sakakibara, is newly transferred to the class 3-3 of the Yomijama North Middle School, which is notorious for being cursed. The school has previously survived the tragic death of one of its students in the same class and it seems that the horror is back, claiming even more lives than before. Kouichi makes an imaginary friend in his class, a girl named Mei, and together they aim to resolve the mystery surrounding these deaths in order to save the lives of fellow classmates and their relatives.

The plot lives up to the standards of a real mystery as viewers keep guessing and solving the puzzle until they find themselves bewildered by the conclusion. The show also provides some insight into the Japanese school system and the psychological impacts of assault and bullying on students’ minds.

When They Cry is a horror anime TV show which is an adaptation from a game with the same name. The series is 26 episodes long and revolves around a group of friends in a small and “peaceful” village. Behind this tranquillity is a series of brutal and mysterious murders that are supposedly connected to an annual festival held in the village to give thanks to the patron god Oyashiro.

The main character of the movie, Keiichi Maebara, is a newbie in the village who soon buddies up with some of his classmates and enjoys after school activities with them. Life is good until Keiichi discovers a string of horrific and puzzling murders happening in the village. In an attempt to find some answers, he unsuccessfully tries to interrogate his friends but comes to the conclusion that even his circle of friends can’t be trusted anymore.

The show is an outstanding portrayal of savageness and brutality illustrated in a series of mind blowing but somehow interconnected episodes. When They Cry can bewilder its viewers in moments when a seemingly calm day turns into bloody carnage.

Future Diary is an action and romance anime TV show featuring a teenager named Yukiteru Amano who loves to scribble notes about the occurrences of his day in a cell phone diary. Yukiteru has two imaginary friends; Deus Ex Machina who is the god of time and space, and Murmur, his servant. But what isn’t in Yukiteru’s wildest imagination is the fact that he is about to become a pawn in a blood-spattered game orchestrated by the dying Dues.

Dues converts Yukiteru’s cell phone into a future diary which, as the name implies, predicts future. Yukiteru is now faced with the challenge of combating 11 other future diary holders, all of whom he has to defeat in order to survive.

The gruesomeness of the series is balanced by the light hearted romance between Yukiteru and his classmate, Yono Gasai, who doesn’t leave his side in these tough times.

The anime TV series Elfen Lied is about a species known as “Diclonius,” which are similar to humans except that they have short horns and a pair of invisible telekinetic hands. These unfortunate creatures include Lucy, who is confined in a barbaric government facility for research purposes.

A favorable turn of events provides Lucy an opportunity to break free from her oppressors and breathe free again. Lucy destroys anything that comes in her way and uses her telekinetic hands, which can cut through almost anything imaginable, to her full advantage. However, Lucy gets shot during the process which brings about a drastic change in her personality; transforming her from the wild and psychotic beast to an adorable girl whose dark side rarely becomes visible.

While Lucy is injured, two college students, Kouta and Yuka, find her and take her into their own protection. They are completely unaware of her original savage nature. The rest of the show portrays Lucy's two new friends protecting her from anyone who tries to harm or recapture her.

If you are looking for a REAL horror anime TV show, one which is an endless supply of profound mystery and scare-you-to-death horror, then Corpse Party is the ideal pick for you.

The story revolves around the students of Kisaragi Academy, which is built on the same grounds where Heavenly Host Elementary School once stood. The later was closed down as a result of some extremely ill-fated events relating to its staff and students and the evil is almost forgotten until one day the students of the Kisaragi Academy unknowingly rouses the demons related to it.

The vicious circle starts when one fateful night, the students gather together to say farewell to a fellow student of the school. To make it official, they carry out a ritual which invokes the evil spirit and transports them to the haunted Heavenly Host Elementary School, which is swarming with the spirits of the dead.

The students now face the challenge of solving the riddle behind the mysterious deaths and disappearances in the past. But there is a slight problem—the past is brimming full with dead school-children eager for vengeance!

This anime TV series depicts some of the most powerful human emotions; hatred and vengeance.

The story is based on the concept of people who are tormented by their friends, family, or other acquaintances and then file their complaints on a website called “Hell Correspondence” by entering the name and details of the alleged offence. The actual revenge is carried out by a mysterious girl named Ai Enma, the “Hell Girl,” who has no other concern except to carry out the assigned task with the utmost efficiency.

The creepiest part of the series, however, is that there is no exchange of cash for the services of the Hell Girl. She gets paid by sending YOU to hell after your death!

This horror anime TV show is based on a fictitious government organization named “HellSing” that serves to protect England from the evil forces such as vampires and ghouls. The organization is headed by Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, who has been a victim of such evil in the past and inherited the ownership while she was still a child.

The forces of Integra are supplemented by the strength of Aulcard, who is an influential vampire and would lay down his life for the safety and well-being of the organization. As the strength of these evil forces flourishes and they victimize one person after another, it is revealed to the organization that a group named Millennium is intending to foster more vampires in order to create havoc. However, as the story unveils, it becomes clearer that the main objective of Millennium is to destroy Lord Aulcard!

This horror anime TV show is a must see for all monster-lovers out there.

The story, as the name implies, portrays a Tokyo which is swarmed with monstrous ghouls whose favorite food is human flesh. These ghouls not only threaten the existence of humans in the city but are also very cunning since they can pose as humans and mingle with them without anyone recognizing them.

The main character of the story is Ken Kaneki, who is a college student and meets someone (Rize Kamishiro) with the same interests as his. Eventually, both Ken and Rize start dating but the tragedy begins when Ken discovers that Rize is in fact a ghoul. An accident leaves Ken half-ghoul half-human and he later finds out that he has to live the life of both.

A love affair for those who adore aliens.

The earth is invaded by parasites—creatures that fall from the sky and take over the human brain by entering through their noses or ears. Shinichi Izumi is one such victim. Fortunately enough, the parasite is unable to reach his brain and instead is limited to his right arm.

Things take a rather surprising turn when Shinichi and this parasite named Migi became acquaintances mainly because they are now inseparable from each other. Migi cannot control Shinichi since he cannot reach his brain and therefore they both are now dependent on each other. Together, they ward off other parasites that try to jeopardize this new bond they have formed.

Another human-devouring-beasts story. The monsters in this horror anime TV series are called titans.

The series has three main characters—Eren Jaeger, his sister Mikasa Ackermann, and their childhood buddy Armin Arlett. The human world in this series is confined by walls to protect them from the titans, which are out for their blood.

A titan breaches the walls and kills the mother of Eren Jaeger and Mikasa Ackermann. The two vow to avenge their mother’s life and consequently they get themselves enrolled in the Scout Regiment to face the titans lurking outside the walls.
