Marvel is one of the biggest names in the superhero game, and that's why when they teamed up with streaming powerhouse, Netflix, a few years back to create original content, people got excited. The Netflix original, Daredevil came out in April of 2015 to rave reviews, and since then the shows have been coming pretty rapidly.

That being said, in the golden age of television there is much to watch and little time; so what are the best Netflix Marvel shows? Should some shows be skipped in favor of others? Or, are they all amazing and worth your time? Catch up on the best Netflix Marvel shows here.

Jessica Jones is one of the best Netflix Marvel shows that people who aren't even crazy about superheroes can enjoy. Here's why: Jessica Jones is a reluctant anti-hero. She opens up her own detective agency to help people—but for a paycheck. She likes to party and drink heavily, and it's hard for at times to put the bottle down and answer her hero calling. This is an interesting turn and a bit of a deviation from standard superhero tropes.

Much of the first season centers around addictions—to mostly booze and revenge—and, for this reason, it appeals to viewers more interested in shows based in reality and more focused on the human condition. Trust me, if you think superhero shows are corny, you haven't experienced Jessica Jones.

It starts following the tragic end of her brief superhero career. After, Jessica tries to rebuild her life as a private investigator, dealing mostly with cases involving people with remarkable abilities in and around New York City. She's got a bad temper and is extremely sarcastic, making this show always an interesting watch.

Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer by day, but his extremely heightened senses turn him into an elite crime fighter at night in Hell's Kitchen. He begins his vigilante activities just as a terrible villain, Wilson Fisk, begins brining havoc to the city streets.

The show has some notable fight scenes, and the choreography is always tight, definitely a cut above other Netflix Marvel shows in terms of battle sequences. That being said, Daredevil is not as compelling story wise as Jessica Jones, and it mostly lives up to what you'd expect in a well-done superhero show—which is not necessarily a bad thing.

As the first, it does a great job laying the foundation for future Marvel shows, and many of the characters cross-pollinate between Daredevil and other programs.

Luke Cage is about a sabotaged experiment that gives Cage super strength and unbreakable skin. After, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive attempting to rebuild his life in Harlem, who soon must come to terms with his dark past. Luke Cage also has some social undertones that make it especially relevant today, clearly one of the best Netflix Marvel shows.

Another great thing about the show is that it gets right to the point. We already knew Cage from Jessica Jones, so they don't bog the viewer down with too much backstory. The pacing is extremely tight, and the action comes fast and furiously. Throw in a great soundtrack and the great Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) as the villain, and you've got the recipe for binge-worthy television.

Iron Fist's reviews haven't been nearly as good as some of the others, but that doesn't mean it's not one of the most entertaining Marvel shows. If you are a fan of the comic books, you will definitely enjoy this Marvel series. In the end, it's a superhero show, so rave reviews aren't generally what follows.

If you don't know the comics, they are about a man who is bestowed with incredible martial arts skills, and a mystical force known as the Iron Fist. With his incredible kung-fu mastery and special abilities, he fights the criminal element coming in around his city. If you like martial arts, this show has some interesting characters you're not going to want to miss.

The Defenders features all of our favorite characters in one place, easily one of the best Netflix Marvel shows. We get Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all in one show, as they team up to fight crime in New York City. They all face their own personal challenges, but eventually, realize they are stronger fighting on the same side.

Fan reaction hasn't been overwhelming, but supergroups rarely are received well—at least critically. However, commercially it's been a big hit, breathing life into each of the individual shows. The crisscrossing storylines give super-fans theories to spin in-between seasons.

The Punisher is poised to be a massive hit, as one of the next big Marvel shows. After the murder of his family, Marine veteran, Frank Castle becomes a vigilante, hell-bent on fighting crime in any way possible. Castle is the definition of a comic book anti-hero who uses lethal violence to punish evil—and it's fun to watch.

It's early, but many people are saying it has the potential to be the best Marvel series ever. With Jon Bernthal from The Walking Dead in the title role, the sky appears to be the limit. It's a lot darker than many of the other series on this list, so if you love that brand of show, you'll be hooked.
