Does Thanos's Possession of the Soul Stone Prove Adam Warlock's Role in 'Avengers: Infinity War'?

Marvel's plan for a long line of superhero movies could extend into chapters that see Thanos return alongside other villains.

The MCU's biggest movie to date is only a year away from premiering, and while the film will be a culmination of Marvel's 10-year plan for the Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War is still shrouded in mystery. Other than the fact that we know the Avengers are going to reunite to take on Thanos as he assembles the completed Infinity Gauntlet, the plot of the film is unknown.

Presumably speaking, Avengers: Infinity War will likely conclude with Thanos being defeated, though we shouldn't count out a villain like #Thanos from returning in the future.

If the current trend in popularity of superhero movies continues, then #Marvel's plan for a long line of superhero movies could extend into chapters that see Thanos return alongside other villains defeated in the past, but that's purely speculative for the moment. What isn't speculative is the aspect of Thanos assembling the completed Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity War.

How Does Thanos Assemble The Completed Infinity Gauntlet?

We've all seen the teaser image of Thanos wielding the completed Infinity Gauntlet on his left hand, which means that he'll assemble the stones into the gauntlet at some point during the film, but no details give any context to the scene.

For all we know, that image of Thanos holding the completed gauntlet could be an image closer to the conclusion of the film, after the Avengers have spent some time attempting to thwart Thanos's plans. However, before Thanos assembles the Infinity Gauntlet, the last remaining Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, will take center stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Before we forget, the location of the last remaining Infinity Stone is still unknown. Many theories and speculative guesses have predicted that the Soul Stone will either be found with Hela or Heimdall, both of whom will make appearances in this year's Thor: Ragnarok, but nothing has confirmed either of those theories.

Who Has the Soul Stone, and How Will Thanos Get It?

Reasonably speaking, it would be logical for either Heimdall or Hela to be in possession of the Soul Stone since Heimdall can see all the souls in the Nine Realms, implying some manipulation or oversight over souls (indicative of the Soul Stone's power).

Hela could also believably be in possession of the Soul Stone since she holds dominion over a space of the MCU that contains a mass amount of souls, so it may turn out that an integral component of Hela's domain, Hel, is the Soul Stone, keeping all of Hela's souls trapped there.

That scenario would also play into the theory that Hela invades Asgard because Loki stole the Soul Stone from Hel, causing Hela to search for it. Hela will invade Asgard at some point during Thor: Ragnarok but the reason for her presence on Asgard hasn't yet been revealed.

Everything to Know About the Soul Stone

Regardless of theories on when and how the Soul Stone will make its first appearance, when it does, the powers of the Soul Stone will bring forth a lot of chaos. The Soul Stone possesses a number of abilities that the wielder can manipulate at his or her discretion.

The Soul Stone is a separate dimension and a sentient organism itself. Within the gem lies a dimension called Soulworld. This dimension is where the souls absorbed by the stone go. The wielder of the Soul Stone can absorb souls into the stone, releasing them at will.

Those are the simply the main functions of the Soul Stone. The gem also has immense powers which grant its wielder the ability to devolve living organisms, project concussive blasts, and produce shape-shifting abilities. Aside from its powers, the Soul Stone has been commonly associated with #AdamWarlock, as it was given to him by the High-Evolutionary, making Warlock the most common bearer of the Soul Stone in Marvel comics.

Will Adam Warlock Be In Possession of the Soul Stone Before Thanos Gets It?

There are currently no (revealed) plans for Adam Warlock to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the most believable theories floating around are that he'll make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok when the search for the Soul Stone becomes a focal point of the film. The other popular theory floating around is that Adam Warlock will make a cameo in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 while on a search for the Avengers, but neither of those theories have been confirmed.

Still, it appears as if Adam Warlock's intro to the MCU will be guaranteed when we take into account the presence of the Soul Stone in Thanos's completed Infinity Gauntlet. That is, unless the Soul Stone's origins are rewritten for the MCU, which is entirely possible.

Either way, the Soul Stone's presence in the #MCU means there'll be some exploration of its origins, but before believing any theories on Adam Warlock joining Avengers: Infinity War, we need to consider how Warlock could believably make his way into the MCU.

Biggest Clues Towards the Secreted Nature of Adam Warlock's Existence in the MCU

If Adam Warlock is introduced to the MCU, he'll likely have already gone through the metamorphosis that transformed "HIM" into Adam Warlock. If you recall the cocoon seen in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 1, it was theorized that the cocoon seen in the Collector's museum was Adam Warlock's. If so, any appearance of Adam Warlock in the MCU would be the evolved version of Warlock, the same Adam Warlock who took possession of the Soul Stone after the High Evolutionary embedded the stone in Warlock's cocoon. Said appearance would reasonably take place in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, still unconfirmed at the moment.

Keeping these things in mind, the origins of the Soul Stone can be tweaked for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially eliminating the possibility of Adam Warlock ever showing up, but what would be the fun in that? Marvel and Disney have been quite clever in keeping their big plans away from prying eyes, so when we really think about it, what would be the biggest reveal Marvel could promote imminently before Avengers: Infinity War? Adam Warlock.

Could The Biggest Reveal Of 'Avengers: Infinity War' Be Adam Warlock

With Adam Warlock being such an integral character in the Infinity Gauntlet story, it would be foolish not to include him at some point. When we account for the tease of Adam Warlock in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 1, it's fairly obvious that Adam Warlock will be inducted into the MCU before (or during) Avengers: Infinity War. Then there's the aspect of Thanos being in possession of the completed Infinity Gauntlet, which all but says he took the Soul Stone from Adam Warlock, so the evidence towards Adam Warlock's induction into the MCU is stacking up.

All things said, the MCU might not even utilize Adam Warlock when introducing the last Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, but when the last Infinity Stone does appear, it'll be the final piece that ties together the Avengers: Infinity War saga.
