UPDATE 02/07/17: It has officially been announced on who will star opposite Nicholson in the remake of Toni Erdmann, #KristenWiig! Our hype levels for this remake have now skyrocketed. Seeing Nicholson work alongside the incredibly hilarious Wiig is a viewing experience I cannot wait for.

The last time we saw acting legend #JackNicholson appear in a new film, he was in a supporting role as a crooked corporate suit in the 2010 romantic-comedy, How Do You Know. The film is notoriously known for being one of the biggest box office flops of all time, managing to gross $48.7 million on a $120 million budget despite its all-star cast. Nicholson has not appeared on the big screen since then, however that is finally about to be rectified with this upcoming project that will lure him out of his semi-retirement.

Prepare For Nicholson To Star In 'Toni Erdmann'

Nicholson is slated to appear in an English remake of the hit German comedy #ToniErdmann. The original film, released in 2016, is directed by Maran Ade and stars Peter Simonischek as an eccentric father who surprises his workaholic daughter (Sandra Hüller) with an extended visit and assumes the persona of his titular alter ego, a costumed smooth-talking life coach with a goofy wig and fake teeth. The nearly three-hour comedy is nominated for best foreign film at the Oscars and best non-English language film at the BAFTAS.

Original director Ade will executive produce the remake along with producers Jonas Dornbach and Janine Jackowski. Adam McKay, known for directing the #AcademyAward winner for Best Adapted Screenplay, The Big Short, will produce for Paramount Pictures along with Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbuam of Gloria Sanchez Productions.

Nicholson apparently enjoyed Toni Erdmann so much, the three-time Oscar winner approached #Paramount’s Brad Grey with the idea for a remake and Grey immediately went to work snatching up the rights. I'm pretty sure if Jack Nicholson ever approached you with a prospect of anything film-related, you would immediately agree with whatever he suggests. A release date and additional casting has not been announced yet.

Jack Nicholson has acted in 67 films and been nominated for an Academy Award 12 times; earning him the honor of being the most nominated male actor in the Academy's history.
