Throughout season five of Nashville, fans have shown their discontent with the plot and many viewers are leaving their once favorite show behind one they campaigned and fought for after ABC canceled it in 2016.

As the ratings have declined, when asked on Twitter what Nashies are feeling about the new switch to CMT, they collectively summarize their emotions as betrayal. New showrunners, Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, have ignored the plots, personalities, and relationships between the characters that ABC established.

For example, in season 2 episode 21, Juliette tells troops at Luke Wheeler's military benefit that her father died when she was four during a military training exercise. Yet, in season 5 episode 13, a flashback shows that Juliette's dad didn't, in fact, die when she was four, but in a car accident on the way to the store. The showrunners also never addressed if Avery and Juliette got remarried or are still divorced but they are back wearing their wedding rings and fans noticed.

Fans have also expressed on social media that the characters don't seem like themselves this season and even pointed out that Deacon hasn't been seen in AA which doesn't make a lot of sense especially since the love of his life died.

Other fans are upset with the current direction of the plot, whether it be Will's lack of screen time, Scarlett and Gunnar's breakup, lack of cute scenes between Avery and Juliette or the death of Rayna Jaymes. They also point out that Juliette has been given less songs this season and want more music.

On July 11, Ed Amatrudo, who plays Juliette's manager Glenn, encouraged Nashies to tell CMT what they would like to see on the show by tweeting, "#NASHIES, instead of saying what you don't like about it, say what it is that you WANT. @CMT IS on your side. They are listening! Just ASK!"

In response, many fans have came up with solutions to fix the show for BOTH Rayna and the other characters. We want the current problems fixed on the show such as ignoring the past storylines, altering the personalities of the characters, more music, more screen time for the main characters as well as a proper ending for the Nashville fans who are heartbroken over Rayna Jaymes.

That is why beginning on Monday, September 4, 2017 Nashville fans will be hosting a campaign in an effort to gain the attention of CMT and tell them that what they want is either:

  1. A Nashville movie that is written like the old Nashville and ignores the death of Rayna and current plot of the show.
  2. An alternate ending that could air as the series finale, where every show, years of shows, since Rayna’s death turned out to be a figment of Rayna’s imagination while she was in the hospital. Her death, the goodbyes, everything we witnessed since she was rushed in for surgery, in reality, never occurred. Rayna awakes to a same-aged Daphne and Maddie, kisses Deacon and survives, followed by a flash-forward showing how the lives of all of the characters actually ended up. More details about how this could work can be found HERE in my previous article.Note: CMT could even shoot this as an alternative series finale where two different finales air. One week they could air an episode that ended the show however they would like and the next week they could air an alternative version for the fans that would like to believe that this is what really happened.
  3. An alternate-ending for our favorite characters on a season DVD. One that would provide a fix to the current storylines and Rayna's death.
  4. Improvements to the plot with the current characters as well as a series finale in which Rayna returns and reveals her death was faked because she had another stalker that was much more dangerous and she had to protect her family.
  5. Improvements to the plot with the current characters as well as a series finale in which they flash-forward and show an afterlife reunion with Deacon and Rayna.
  6. Or any other solution that would fix the current problems in the show as well as give Rayna fans a better ending. After all, they helped campaigned for the show and deserve a happy ending too. (These options were not listed in any particular order. We would be more than happy with any of them!)

Of course for any of these projects, Connie Britton would have to agree to return, but that could possibly be easier than one would think. During her TVLine interview, Britton stated “Nashville’s always going to be important to me, so I’m totally open to whatever as time goes on.” Furthermore, she said before Rayna’s final episode she had told Marshall Herskovitz, Nashville’s showrunner, “Hey, I could stay on and do a few more [episodes] if we’ve got more story to tell,” which would lead one to think she would come back one last time for the sake of the story. These ideas would hardly interfere with her continued absence and would only require one last goodbye.

Would this ending satisfy your craving for the show you once loved?

If so, join us for campaigning on Monday! In order to participate, all you have to do is tweet with the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT and let them know that this is what you would like to see for the future of Nashville. If you do not have Twitter and still would like to participate, you can always email CMT. See rules below for email addresses.

Campaign Rules:

Our goal is to get the CMT officials to see our post as well as get our hashtag to trend on Twitter. In order for something to trend on Twitter, both the number of people tweeting and number of tweets matter. So please recruit your fellow Nashie friends or even friends who are just willing to help out and have them tweet the hashtag AND tweet the hashtag as often as you can! Also we will be doing prize giveaways for people who either use the hashtag on Twitter or email CMT and email us with proof.

1. The campaign will begin Monday September 4, 2017 at 10:00 am (Central Standard Time).

Because we need the most tweets at the beginning of our campaign, each tweet using the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT within the first hour will be worth 3 entries. However, we still want people engaging with the campaign until production for the new season starts so any tweet with the hashtag or email sent to CMT until September 26 at midnight, will still be worth 1 entry. (For those who cannot tweet during the first hour due to work or other responsibilities, you can schedule tweets to post automatically during that time using Hootsuite or Buffer.)

2. You must use the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT in EVERY tweet while you are participating. This is how we will keep track of entries.

3. Please also tag @MHerskovitz@CallieKhouri@JesseZwick@CMT@NashvilleCMT@LionsgateTV in your tweets, although this isn't necessary in every tweet.

3. If you do not have a Twitter, you can still participate by emailing CMT at [email protected] or [email protected] (they both cover Nashville) and telling them that you would like to see one of the following ideas above! (Please DO NOT just simply email them the hashtag, rather explain that you want to see one of the above ideas in Nashville's future) Also please include "Nashville" in the email subject line of any emails you send them.

4. In order for your email to count toward the drawing for a prize, you must screencap proof you sent an email and email me the picture at [email protected].

5.We will be giving away at least 4 autographed Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne) picturesalong with a few other surprise prizes to fans who either tweet using the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT or email CMT and tell them they would like to see one of the ideas above!

6. Winners of the prize drawings will be posted throughout the duration of the campaign on the @NashieCampaign twitter and be notified either via Twitter or email.

7. Here's the breakdown of number of entries:

  • Each tweet using the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT on Twitter from 10:00 am to 11:00 am (Central Standard Time) on Monday September 4 will be worth 3 entries.
  • Each tweet using the hashtag #ListentoFansCMT after 11:00 am on September 4 (Central Standard Time) until September 26 at midnight (Central Standard Time) will be worth 1 entry.
  • Each email a person sends to CMT and emails me with proof they did so, will receive 1 entry.
  • Prize winners will be selected through random drawings throughout the campaign. The more entries earned though the higher your chances of winning, obviously.

For any questions regarding the campaign or time zones, feel free to contact: @NashieCampaign on Twitter or [email protected].
