Shows Everyone Needs to Watch

My fellow binge watchers, this is for you!

Almost too often I have those days where I finish a show I was currently watching, just to have no idea of what I should start to watch next. I like to watch a variety of different genres, but usually not the same type back to back. Unfortunately, in my “recommended shows,” I am only referenced to other shows which are eerily similar to the one I just finished. Sadly, I scroll through the selections, just to get overwhelmed by all the choices I have, and get too annoyed reading the pilot synopsis that I scroll back to my “watch again” category and decide from there what show I will rewatch, AGAIN.

To help out my fellow binge TV show watchers, I put together a list of some TV shows which are all equally binge worthy. I tried to pick shows that go against the grain, get you thinking, make you question your existence/what you do with your existence, and put you in your feels (only a little, I promise). Beware: This list may contain one or two movies, documentaries/docuseries!

  1. Shark Tank: If you haven’t seen this show before, you need to start watching it right now. The series shows entrepreneurs come and pitch ideas of products, businesses, and services to a panel of “sharks,” or highly successful business men and women who are also entrepreneurs themselves. The sharks who appear most often on the show are Kevin O’ Leary, or as he is better known as “Mr. Wonderful,” Barbara Cocoran, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec, Lori Greiner, and Mark Cuban. While it typically is just these sharks who appear in nearly every episode, the series has also taken on guests such as Alex Rodriguez and Bethany Frankel. The ideas pitched in the show will blow your mind or make you think, “Who was dumb enough to think this thing would be successful?” You’ll even learn some economic terms while being entertained, and may be surprised when you see a product on the show that you recognize from the stores!
  2. The People v. OJ Simpson: See inside and behind the scenes of one of the most famous court cases to date. While this is not a reality show, actors portray Simpson and the people he was close with, along with his extreme defense team. It is a fascinating mix of drama, thrill, criminal justice system, and the flaws of a court case. You are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions while getting to see first hand what it may have been like for the people involved in this case.
  3. Black Mirror: Episodes of Black Mirror will leave you not only speechless, but pondering for days. Each episode has a unique theme, playing out different scenarios based of science fiction ideologies. Episodes typically range from 42 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes, and will keep you engaged the whole time. I can’t describe it much more without giving away what happens in certain episodes, but you definitely want to watch an episode the next time you have spare time to binge watch.
  4. Friends From College: What I thought was going to be a sitcom-type show, was not. The plot is pretty dense, and I have to admit, the series made me pretty pessimistic about happiness in adulthood. You are taken on the journey of a group of friends, all who have been friends since they went to college at Yale. We see pitfalls in marriages, difficulty in conceiving, and affairs run wild throughout the group. While the story line is a little depressing, I still consider it a must watch. The show is well written and well executed.
  5. Friends: If you haven’t watched this classic 90s sitcom, watch it now. That’s all that needs to be said there.
  6. Big Mouth: Warning, this show is EXTREMELY raunchy and will definitely make you feel uncomfortable more than once. This animated comedy follows around a group of young teens navigating puberty, and all the struggles that come with it. The show is witty, truthful, and although it may seem too inappropriate to be a TV show, it is totally entertaining. You’re sure to laugh—and cringe—and this show.
  7. Forensic Files: Break out your inner detective on all different murder cases. This show tells real life stories of crimes resulting in a death. Not only is the show interesting, but you get to see inside the criminal justice system and what it is like to decode a crime scene in forensics.
  8. Rotten: If this film doesn’t make you rethink your food choices, I will be amazed. It's not telling you to go all organic or vegan (I am not vegan myself), but it is interesting to see where our food is coming from and how we get it. Watch if you are in the mood to learn something you may really want to learn. It is for sure an eye opener.

Well, I hope this helps you beat some boredom. Happy binge watching!
