This article will contain spoilers to The Belko Experiment.

A short while ago I watched the horror film The Belko Experiment on a whim. While it did not contain rampant serial killers that haunt the dreams of teenagers or creatures that can shapeshift into anything and anyone, it left me chilled to the core. Despite the popular plots plaguing the horror genre of a monster or supernatural killer hunting the main protagonists, it is the most common evil in the real world that is also the most terrifying. Human nature.

In the film, the workers of an office belonging to Belko Industries turn up to work as usual with a few key differences in the usual arrival. The local employees are sent home and just as the central characters realise something is amiss the building is sealed with no way out. A voice over the intercom then instructs the workers to kill two people or four would die. And so the games began.

Throughout the film, the characters employed different techniques in order to survive, each with similar results. I have compiled a short list of what not to do should you also find yourself in this situation.

1. Go it alone

I know your first instinct may be to compile the strongest people in the office into a group for the best chance of survival, but in these kinds of situations, people become paranoid and jumpy. One minute you're having a casual conversation, next thing you know Susan from Marketing is driving a spanner into your skull. It's safe to say you'd have been better off on your own.

2. Avoid elevators

While elevators are a handy, non-exertive form of travel between floors in the building, they could very well become your metal coffin. There are only two exits in a lift and in a situation like this neither are very favourable. You could very easily be cornered and shot in the face in the elevator or made into a pancake in the elevator shaft after climbing out through the maintenance door to escape the clutches of a blood thirsty co-worker.

3. Avoid Confrontation

People are emotional creatures that tend to lash out in moments of strong negative emotions. Some people will want to survive for their families, others could lose people they love during the experiment. It is these emotions that will drive them to do things out of the norm, and completely ignore their moral compass in order to cope with their emotions. People this far gone cannot be bargained with and are best to be avoided should you wish to survive.

4. Don't let the Sharpshooters Near the Guns

As soon as any co-worker with a proficiency to guns gets their hand on one the bodies will start dropping fast. It's best to either prevent them from obtaining these items or avoid these people completely because chances are their mindset will be 'Shoot first, ask questions later' in such a hostile environment.

If you follow these four simple steps you will be well on your way to surviving the Belko Experiment.

Well... That is until you have to be the person with the highest number of kills in order to leave the building.
