Gary Oldman has done it all. From punk bass guitarist Sid Vicious to dreadlocked pimp Drexl Spivey, Oldman belongs to a rare breed of acting legends whose acting career has traversed through multitudes of roles. Gary Oldman was Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. He enacted a disfigured character named Mason Verger in the 2001 Hannibal movie. He also appeared in the popular mid-90s sitcom Friends. His choice of roles have an absurd range, sometimes they just stultify you.

I mean, he's the guy who played both Classical composer Beethoven and debaucherous Sex Pistols member Sid Vicious. So, you can always expect unexpected performances from Oldman Gary.

He was cast as a Russian terrorist Egor Korshunov aboard Air Force One. He was fantastically cracked as Norman Stansfield in Léon: The Professional. He tried for the role of General Grievous in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. He has appeared in a Guns 'N' Roses music video alongside Axl Rose and made a duet with friend David Bowie. They both filmed together for "The Next Day" music video. For every well-know role, he changes accents, creates personas, appends them with abstemious body language traits and delivers a 'big' performance.

His character Mr. Zorg in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element would go on to make a remarkable impression on future hair styles inspiring DJ Skrillex's hairdo. He wrote and directed a movie called Nil by Mouth. He played the Devil in a movie about how the legendary James Brown sold his soul to the Devil for fame and fortune. He is a mythical figure O.W. Grant found along Interstate 60. Good luck finding it. He lent his voice to video games like True Crime: Streets of LA and Call of Duty: Black Ops I. He voices Lord Shen, the antagonist of Kung Fu Panda 2. You can also find him pronouncing the lyrics to Pitbull's Timber in his crude, astute British accent.

Throwing in this ridiculous HTC One commercial starring the great Gary Oldman. He is also set to appear as Admiral Bishop in the perpetually delayed video game, Star Citizen's single-player initiative Squadron 42. Joe Orton, Elvis Presley, Pontius Pilate, Lee Harvey Oswald, Buford Hill, Sirius Black, Commissioner Jim Gordon, Floyd Banner and all those crazy villainous characters he has played - Gary Oldman is a friggin' relic and a work in progress.

Although, there is one role we might have missed. His role in The Thin Red Line was mooted even before shooting began. Terrence Malick realized there was already a huge influx of characters in his war drama and decided to cut off not just Gary Oldman but also Viggo Mortensen and Martin Sheen to name a few.

Winston Churchill

Darkest Hour is an upcoming British historical war drama film by Joe Wright. Winston Churchill leads a charge against Hitler's army in the early days of World War II. Within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.

The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI, John Hurt as Neville Chamberlain, Kristin Scott Thomas as Clementine Churchill and frequent collaborator Lily James as Elizabeth Nel. Gary Oldman and John Hurt will share together for the second time after Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which is one of the best British films I have watched.

Joe Wright has previously directed the romance film Pride & Prejudice which I haven't watched yet. But I did watch his other movies - the action thriller Hanna employed some stylish elements and nicely choreographed fight sequences.

and Atonement, I remember only for that amazing 5 and half minute tracking shot of the Dunkirk evacuation. Here's the video for everyone's perusal.

It will be wish fulfilling if the director could employ those trademark tracking shots in 'Darkest Hour.'
