What-If Girl: A Girl's Very Best Friend in Today's Crazy Oppressive Society (Working Title)

In this cold Trump world, things are feeling a bit strange. Today's atmosphere feels stifling, oppressive, even dangerous for minorities, women, and folks who are waking up to daily injustices. Black and brown women are asking themselves stale queries as they go into battle with everyday bullshit in this twisted version of life: Who says I need approval get moving on my own passions and desires? What if I lived life on my own terms and principles as a strong woman in this world? What if I did the right thing, and actually took care of myself? What if I stood up for what was right at all costs?

So many questions, so few answers: that's how I came up with WHAT-IF GIRL, the goody-two-shoes with spunk who cares about saving your precious soul. Now I'm not talking about Sunday "church-clothes" save-your-soul, I mean crystals-for-your-chakras type saved-souls, ascending to the next level of this trifling game called life in 2017 (seriously, how many times—if you can even afford a bank account—did you get hit with overdraft fees this month? This game is the pits). She is literally my personal superhero, and I believe she could save lives if she was in children's books in a popular diverse bookstore near you. What-If Girl would remind you of your inner strength & beauty as you walk into your boss' office to demand that pay raise with grace and guts. What-If Girl would be in your ear transferring blessings from your great-grandmother as you walk across the stage for your never-would-have-made it college graduation next weekend wearing the pearl earrings she left you before you were born. What-If Girl is smart: she's in tune with the past/present/future and she encourages you to use your resources for survival. Remember that time What-If Girl called your attention to the wretched hiding-place of that long-lost fast food coupon using nothing but numbers and coincidences in your daily life? Yeah you know what I'm talking about. And I bet you bought a semi-healthy option, too, with that coupon! Go 'head girl! Synchronicity is one of her super powers, along with empathy, and emotional and physical healing.

Do you think you could use an imaginary friend like What-If Girl ("Wiggy" for short) in your life? Just meditate and call on her, ask her questions like your own personal Siri (or whatever version of this is the most current now). Ask Wiggy: Should I be dating a person like this? or How do I remain at ease when meeting someone different than myself? You can even ask Wiggy about what outfit to wear, because Wiggy will keep you cute without letting you forget that even the fibers in your clothes can oppress a family thousands of miles away. And that clothes can be racist and sexist, too. What-If Girl is sociologist + Neil de Grasse Tyson + #blackgirlmagic in true form. What If Girl is me, and it is my dream to make everyone as sensitive as I am so that we will all care about each other wayyyy too much, and learn how to love ourselves in the process.

What-If Girl is you as well. She reminds you of your true compass direction. She reads you your horoscope and reminds you that you're made of the stars. She is your personal hype-woman and wing-woman. She is the woman you hoped you'd grow up to be when you were a kid, and yet she is innocent as that child was back then. The eternal optimist that heals trauma with love. She is a social worker's wet dream and a hater's new curiosity. What's next for What-If Girl?

What-If Girl

What if good things were always possible?

To that, Wiggy says, “What if? There's no doubt it's true!”
