Suicide Squad is still the big topic of discussion in online circles. Regardless of critics' review on the film and the lackluster reception from most fans, Suicide Squad is doing great overall. This weekend will be the third weekend straight that Suicide Squad has remained at the top of box office numbers. The success of the film is being underestimated at the moment but once the final tally comes in and confirmation of the sequel is announced, all those flip-flop fans and critics are going to be singing a different tune when they hear of a sequel for Suicide Squad being green-lit by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Aside from the potential sequel to this year's Suicide Squad, and the possibility of new vilains joining the team, it's possible two "heroes" of DC Comics will be joining the cast of Suicide Squad 2 as well. Those heroes being that of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. You may be asking yourself "why would Hawkman and Hawkgirl join the Suicide Squad?" The reason for that may have to do with their DC Comics history in Midway City.

Why weren't Hawkman and Hawkgirl defending Midway City in the midst of a city-wide takeover?

Since we know that Suicide Squad (2016) took place for the most part in Midway City, we would expect Hawkman and Hawkgirl to at least make a cameo in the film but they were nowhere to be seen. Neither of them has been introduced to the DC'EU but with so much action surrounding Midway City and an established DC'EU universe being used as the stage for Suicide Squad, it would be reasonable to assume that Hawkman and Hawkgirl reside within Midway City as existing heroes of the DC'EU. Their exclusion from the film could probably be written off by accounting for the evacuation of Midway City before the Suicide Squad arrived; but it still drives the question of where Hawkman and Hawkgirl went during the events of Suicide Squad?

As previously mentioned, the two probably left Midway City as an evacuation was ordered. And neither Hawkman or Hawkgirl would be able to remain within the city if they knew their home in the Midway City Museum would make them easy targets for the disfigured soldiers roaming the streets of Midway City. That in itself would be enough reason for Hawkman and Hawkgirl to evacuate Midway City alongside other civilians. However, it's possible that Hawkman and Hawkgirl weren't even in Midway City when Enchantress and Incubus decided to take over. The more believable explanation for their absence likely saw them detained by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and A.R.G.U.S. Although, it's more plausible to believe that Hawkman and Hawkgirl don't exist within the DC'EU- yet. Accounting for the probability of Hawkgirl and Hawkman not existing within the current DC'EU, there's potential for them to jump into the DC'EU at a moment's notice and that time may come in Suicide Squad 2.

Going back to the plausible circumstances of both Hawkman / Carter Hall and Hawkgirl/ Shiera Saunders being detained by A.R.G.U.S., they may very well be introduced in Suicide Squad 2 as known vigilantes of Midway City and could transition into becoming members of the Justice League further down the timeline in the DC'EU. But for now, we can consider their absence from Suicide Squad as a big indicator of their imprisonment in Belle Reve Prison or another off-site A.R.G.U.S. facility. In the scenario of both Hawkman and Hawkgirl being imprisoned in Belle Reve Prison, it wouldn't come as too much of a surprise if they were to become members of the Suicide Squad in the expected, sequel to this year's villain team-up feature.

What do you think? Should Hawkman and Hawkgirl have been given a cameo in Suicide Squad? Or should they be introduced as captured vigilantes in Suicide Squad 2?
