There's a reason why the longest running scripted prime-time TV show in U.S. history continues to remain in the public eye: the writers know what the people want. In this case, a Lannister is preparing to visit Springfield — and we cannot be more excited.

Game Of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on the hit HBO series, is set to lend his voice to an upcoming Thrones-inspired episode of #TheSimpsons this fall. Entertainment Weekly spoke with Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman about the upcoming episode, titled "The Serfsons," and he described it as “a love letter to the fantasy genre of books and movies and TV shows.”

Best known for portraying the Kingslayer with an arm of gold, Coster-Waldau joins the likes of his fellow Thrones star Carice van Houten (Melisandre) who voiced Milhouse's cousin, Annika Van Houten, in the episode "Let's Go Fly A Cool." While details of Coster-Waldau's character are being kept under wraps, Selman teases fans with a few hints:

“He plays a character not unlike Jamie. He has a surprising and sexy connection to one of the main characters.”

Not The First Time Westeros Has Bled Into Springfield

We all know how incredibly adept those Simpsons writers are when it comes to paying homage to fan-favorite films and shows. By being one of the most beloved animated series on #TV (and never shying away from making a contemporary pop culture reference), and with Thrones' popularity growing with each passing season, it's no surprise that the juggernaut HBO series has been referenced once or twice.

The couch gag during the Season 23 episode, "Exit Through the Kwik-E-Mart," featured a Game Of Thrones-inspired opening, complete with the depiction of those famous Springfield landmarks all set to the epic tune of the Thrones theme song. You can view the awesomely executed gag below:

There have also been a few other quick references to the series on The Simpsons, such as a student at Springfield University mentioning it during a Treehouse Of Horror special and a Duffman advert featuring Homer sitting on a throne much more dangerous than thousands of blades: thousands of Duff Beer cans.

Selman, The Simpsons' executive producer, wants even more #GoT stars to cameo, especially the actor behind Tyrion Lannister:

"Peter Dinklage has an amazing voice. We’re just nerds who want to meet our nerd heroes.”
