10 Actors and Actresses Who Could Play Lex Luthor and Lois Lane in 'Metropolis'

Who will star in the anticipated prequel?

DC Comics has recently announced their latest addition for their exclusive streaming service in the form of a Superman prequel, and much like Fox's Gotham, it won't focus on the hero in question. Instead, Metropolis is set to focus on Lex Luthor and and Lois Lane in sort of an X-Files buddy cop scenario, meaning that Lex isn't completely evil yet. We don't know a lot of the details yet, but we know that these characters need to be cast, and I have a few suggestions on the matter.

Lex Luthor

1. Timothy Olyphant

Whether or not you enjoyed the Hitman movie, you have to admit that Timothy Olyphant looks good with a shaved head. It's unclear what kind of actor DC is looking for in this incarnation of Lex Luthor, but Olyphant can play good, bad, and everything in between, so it may not matter with his casting. Granted, he's a lot older than what you would expect from a prequel Luthor, but it's unclear how many years before Superman the show takes place, and I'm willing to bet that Olyphant could be the best Lex yet.

2. Corey Stoll

Corey Stoll is possibly the best possible choice to play Lex Luthor, and I'm extremely disappointed that he didn't get that chance in the movie franchise. However, this may be our chance to finally see the Lex Luthor fans deserve. Stoll is large and authoritative, naturally bald, and has excellent range as an actor, especially being good with villains. While it might be a stretch for him to take the role, I am in full confidence that this is the role he was born to play.

3. Iwan Rheon

If you've seen Game of Thrones (and let's be honest, who hasn't), you know that Iwan Rheon can turn any character into the best villain on TV. After playing someone as malicious as Ramsay Bolton, anyone would sign off on him playing a villain, especially one as iconic as Lex Luthor. Just shave his head and give him the role, and I can guarantee that all parties involved would be happy with the decision.

4. Jesse Plemons

Jesse Plemons may not have the exact look you think of when you say Lex Luthor, but I feel that he makes up for that with his acting prowess. The hair is a non-issue because we all know he'll lose it eventually, and once his head is shaved, I'm willing to bet that we'll start to see a prime Plemons villain. While he may not be the biggest star in the world, he's certainly a familiar face to most people, and I know for a fact that he would be an excellent Lex Luthor.

5. Patrick Wilson

Patrick Wilson has the charm, good looks, and likeable personality that everyone expects from Lex, as well as being versatile enough to switch between a billionaire socialite and a murder-crazed villain. Sure Wilson is already playing the Ocean Master in Aquaman, but actors have made the jump between DC TV and movies before, and Wilson may be seen as a good enough Lex Luthor to do just that. He's a huge star that everyone loves, and if he were to be put in this series, it would definitely attract a lot of attention to the project.

Lois Lane

1. Lily Collins

One of the biggest complaints from fans about the DCEU Lois Lane is that she just doesn't look like her comic book counterpart, and that Amy Adams quite simply isn't pretty enough for the role. While I disagree on the latter, Adams truly doesn't resemble the character, and that's where I think someone like Lily Collins could improve upon. While she's not the most famous actress in Hollywood, she has the darker hair and reporter type charm required for the role. She looks like the character enough to impress the audience, and if she can manage to shake her English accent, she could be perfect for the role.

2. Nina Dobrev

via Life & Style

When it comes to dark hair and a strong will on TV, it doesn't get much better than Nina Dobrev. One of Lois Lane's most prominent features is that she won't back down in virtually any situation, and I feel like Dobrev, the usual action star, could really bring that out in the role. At only 29, she's certainly young enough for the prequel, and I feel like fans will be much happier with this choice than previous incarnations of the hardnose reporter.

3. Cristin Milioti

via New York Post

Cristin Milioti is best known as a comedic actress, but I don't think it's as simple as that. Milioti has appeared in critically acclaimed dramas such as Fargo and Black Mirror, and while both of those shows certainly have comedic elements in them, she was able to show her range as an actress. She could absolutely nail the role of an inquisitive reporter, and I believe that she looks enough like the character to possibly snag the part.

4. Felicity Jones

via timeout.com

The most well known actress on this list, Felicity Jones became a breakout action star in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and since then people haven't been able to get enough of her. Jones is one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood, both figuratively and literally, and you can bet that her addition to Metropolis would attract some major attention to the series. She looks like the character, she's one of the most popular new stars in the world right now, and her Lois Lane could be the best we will ever see.

5. Mackenzie Davis

via screencrush.com

One of the most promising and underrated up-and-coming stars today is Mackenzie Davis, who I'm sure you recognize from something. As a virtual unknown, she's already done Black Mirror, The Martian, Halt and Catch Fire, and a handful of other critically acclaimed projects, meaning that she could bring the same level of acclaim to Metropolis. If she were to dye her hair for the role and fully commit herself, she could be the most impeccable Daily Planet reporter we've ever seen, and she is one of my personal favorites for the role.

What did you think? Who should star in Metropolis?
