10 Actors Who Could Play Constantine in a Justice League Dark Movie

A movie that would include my favorite DC character, Constantine, could be in our future, and here's who should play him.

There has been talks of doing a Justice League Dark movie since 2005 when Keanu Reeves' Constantine came out, and ever since he's outgrown the role, I've wondered who could bring their star-power to the badass demon hunter. Matt Ryan is currently playing Constantine on the CW, but since they're clearly keeping the DCTV and any movie DC is making separate, chances are we won't see his perfect interpretation of the character on screen.

While there's no serious work being done on this movie, and Guillermo del Toro has abandoned this project, there's still a high chance of seeing this movie made, and I'm very particular on who I want to see play my favorite DC character (aside from Batman of course). So without further ado, let's take a look at my choices for a hopefully perfect Constantine.

1. Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany is my personal favorite choice for this role, because he fits the bill perfectly! He's got the same exact hair color, he has the accent, he has the look, and he can play dark very well. Yes, I know that he's currently playing two Marvel roles (The Vision and J.A.R.V.I.S), but there's no telling when this movie will be made. This could very well happen after Marvel has had their run, and Paul Bettany would be free from the chains that are his contract with the company. The point is, all you would have to do is put this guy in a trench coat and make him chain smoke on camera, and he would make the perfect Constantine.

2. Colin Farrell

The idea for this choice comes from fellow creator Casey Haney, who you all should go check out and give a follow. But trust me when I say that the reasoning behind Farrell as Constantine is easy to see. He has the accent, he has experience playing detective type characters, and he looks the part aside from his dark hair, in which DC has already drifted from once with Keanu Reeves. He's an amazing actor I've wanted to see be apart of the DC universe for a while (either Batman or Constantine, I would go for either), and I think he would look mighty good with a trench coat and a cigarette between his fingers.

3. Daniel Craig

Mr. Bond won't be Mr. Bond anymore after Spectre, and what better role is there to jump into than Constantine? He has the look, hair, accent, and acting skills, so with no other projects to pursue, he could give us a great Constantine. I don't know how well he would do as a supernatural detective, but his wife was in the first movie, so maybe he can take some pointers?

4. David Tennant

While Tennant might seem like an outlandish choice, he has shown multiple times that he can play dark characters, and he has the accent for the role. We all obviously know him as The Doctor, but he has done great dark characters in shows like Gracepoint and Broadchurch. He can do a grizzly British voice, he has the acting skills to pull off this character, and while he doesn't really have the look for the character, I think he could bring us a Constantine more like Keanu Reeves' version (which I happened to enjoy).

5. Michael Fassbender

I think we can all agree that Fassbender is one of the greatest actors of our time, and with the X-Men films running out of steam, he may be branching out to other projects. He has the kind of unhinged look that goes along with Constantine, he has the accent for the character, and he can act the "hell" out of anything (see what I did there)? If this role was given to Fassbender, we wouldn't hear anymore of, "Please not another Constantine, I can't handle the heartbreak." He would take the role, and he would kill it, because that's what he always does.

6. Aaron Eckhart

Yes, I know he's already played Two-Face, but the Nolan Trilogy is not apart of the DCEU. I mean, they offered the role of Rick Flag to Tom Hardy first! And if Justice League Dark isn't apart of the DCEU, that's even better, less confusion! To get to the point though, Eckhart is the only actor on this list thus far with an American accent. However, he does have the look and acting skills for the character, so I'm willing to bet with a few months of accent training that he would be up to par. But even if he pulled a Keanu and didn't have an accent, he could still be the best Constantine to date, just from his acting! Besides, he's no stranger to smoking, he's already thanked us for it. I know that was lame, just go to the next person.

7. Charlie Hunnam

Everyone wants Hunnam to be Green Arrow in the DCEU so bad, that they've overlooked the fact that he would make a good Constantine! Think about it, he has the accent, the hair, the look, can play dark and crazy, he really fits everything needed for this role! I'm willing to bet that this guy would look great in a trench coat, and could give us a great Constantine.

8. Michael C. Hall

Michael C. Hall is another actor that's American, yet if he could get the accent down, he could bring something that Reeves and Matt Ryan couldn't. Hall has actually had to battle cancer, and playing a character with lung cancer, he could pull from his own experiences. He plays dark characters like no other, he has the look, and he has first hand experience of what this character has to go through. If he could find a way to connect his real life with Constantine, then he could be the best one yet.

9. Sam Worthington

Sam Worthington is an amazing actor who has done great movies, yet somehow gets very little recognition. I feel like Constantine could be his gateway back into popular movies. He has the accent, the look, and plenty of great movies to back my decision. Sam could either make or break Constantine, but it's better than what we have now, which is nothing. If he could look convincing in the costume and pull from a darker tone rather than the regular action that he's used to, then he could give us a remarkable Constantine.

10. Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor is a great actor who has been overlooked since the Star Wars prequels, and I think he could bring some of his star power back as Constantine. He's got the look down (possibly the best one this list in that department), the accent is real, and the acting may be a little challenging, but McGregor can handle it. If he can go darker than we've ever seen him, then we would have ourselves the best Constantine yet.

Honorable Mentions: Viggo Mortensen

Viggo Mortensen is an amazing actor that never got recognition when he was young enough to still do good action movies, and now he's quite too old to play a character like Constantine. If he were maybe a decade younger, then he would be 1st on this list, but you can't turn back time.

Joseph Morgan

While I personally think that Morgan would make a great Constantine, I have to face the facts and admit that a TV actor like him has no place with a character of this magnitude. He's a great fit, but he's not at a point in his career where he can pull off this character on the big screen. Maybe in a few years when production gets serious he'll have more fame, hopefully.
