Starting From the Beginning

Oh, you've never watched The Office? Okay, well I would consider reevaluating your life and then coming back and reading this article. Or, you can read the article so that I can convince you that you NEED this show in your life. These are ten moments of The Office that define the show. WARNING: If you've never watched it, there are spoilers in here.

1. The Pilot

Although this show was extremely popular for quite some time, season one only had six episodes, unlike the rest of the seasons that would hit 20 or more episodes per season. So the first moment is the pilot of the show, which is the very first episode. Here we meet manager Michael Scott and his "family" of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. A crew comes into the office to observe modern management and maybe get some blooper reel along the way. We see the beginning of Dwight and Jim, and Michael's man crush on Ryan, the temp. If you don't watch the first episode, you might be confused as to what the show is all about, so this episode is crucial.

2. Jim kisses Pam on Casino Night.

If you've seen season one and two of the show, you'll understand when I say that we've all wanted Jim and Pam to get together, and Roy was not good enough for her. Jim constantly dropped hints with Pam, but like any other oblivious girl (sorry Pam), she didn't notice until Jim kissed Pam in the office after Michael's "Casino Night" scheme. This episode ends the season, and we see in the beginning of the next one that Pam breaks off her engagement with Roy, and Jim doesn't get why (WOW SURPRISING). This is the moment that Jim's feelings become completely known to Pam, and it changes everything forever.

3. Michael hits Meredith with his car.

This moment, by far, is one of my favorite, because it really shows how Michael is completely oblivious to all things not pertaining to paper. Like when Michael is too busy talking to the camera on his way to work when he hits Meredith head on with his car and puts her in the hospital. He insists that all of them go at once to see her in the hospital, where they find out that she has rabies, as well. He immediately takes this chance to try and make a difference, not for hitting her, but for her rabies. He creates a fun run race to raise money (which fails miserably) for a cure to rabies (which has already been discovered) made out to SCIENCE. This is a MUST SEE episode of the show, and I have laughed all three times I've watched it.

4. Toby goes to live in Costa Rica.

Michael Scott v.Toby

This moment is usually overlooked when it comes to thinking of the show as a whole, but this moment is when we see Toby's secret love for Pam, and Michael's not-so-secret hate for Toby, and excitement that he is leaving. Toby decides to take some time away and go to live in Costa Rica, and Michael demands that they throw a huge party to celebrate. We see Andy's proposal to Angela, where she says "okay," and we see Jim tuck the ring he was going to give to Pam into his pocket for a later date. Saying goodbye to Toby left us wanting more, because we knew there were so many more events on the horizon.

5. Dunder Mifflin gets sold.

If you've made it this far, awesome! The show starts out kind of slow, but this was one of the most iconic moments of the show; when Dunder Mifflin gets sold to Sabre and Andy and Erin greet their new superiors with a song. We meet the AMAZING Robert California, and we go through a rollercoaster of emotions as Sabre goes through taking over the company, but is eventually sold back to David Wallace. Personally, I thought that the episodes where Dunder Mifflin was sold were kind of overkill, but some of the best moments happened during this time that I won't be getting into. This is why the earlier seasons of the show are definitely the best (open for argument).

6. Michael leaves Dunder Mifflin.

'Goodbye Michael'

I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying. This was BY FAR the most emotional moment of the show for me, I was crying so hard during this episode because I knew the show would never be the same after this. Michael loved Jan throughout the show, but this love never compared to the feelings he had for Holly Flax, Toby's HR replacement. When she must go and tend to her parents in Boulder, Michael decides that he wants to be with her, so he decides to propose and move to Colorado with her. Talk about TEARS; happy or sad? You decide.

7. Jim and Pam get married.

One of the most memorable moments of The Office was when Pam and Jim tied the knot. We laughed, we cried, and now they were finally about to live their life together, along with a baby on the way (SPOILER ALERT). Michael, as usual, tries to take control of the wedding and make himself the center of attention, which spoils the news of her baby before she can tell her family herself. This ends interestingly, to say the least. My description does no justice, go watch to get the full emotional effect.

8. Angela has a baby with the Senator.

Angela Martin

We all know Angela Martin, the only woman in the office who fell in love with Dwight Schrute, and led a secret love affair with him for years without anyone knowing. Then, Dwight had to go and kill her precious Sprinkles (she's a cat), ending their relationship. She built a relationship with Senator Lipton (he's gay), and ended up having a baby with him. We come to find out that Senator Lipton cheated on Angela with a male, and she left him, taking her son with her. She confided in Oscar then, who got her through this difficult time where she had nowhere to go. We find out in the very last episode that the baby was actually Dwight's, whom she was intimate with a month before her own wedding with the senator, which leads into the last, and in my opinion, most emotional part of the entire series.

9. Dwight proposes to Angela.

Maybe I'm just biased, but Dwight is my favorite character in the show; probably because a lot of his personality reminds me of myself. He has a good heart, and he tries to incorporate that in every decision he makes in and out of the office. He loves Angela so much, but struggles with expressing that to her throughout the show, and finally when the documentary ends, he realizes that he has to commit to her if he wants to keep her. She says yes, Dwight chooses Jim to be his best man, and Michael even comes back to be there for him. I cried so hard during this moment, and I was screaming at my computer when Angela told him that Phillip was his. This was the best moment of the show. Argue all you want, but you're wrong.

10. The camera man loves Pam.

I hate him. You almost broke up Pam and Jim. Enjoy this photo of the first time Jim asked out Pam.
