10 Spy Comedies That Are Sure to Make You Want to Be a Secret Agent

This past weekend I was finally able to sit down and watch 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.', and I have to say I couldn't have been happier with my movie selection. As I was watching, I started thinking about all the other spy films that I've seen over the years, specifically all the comedic films in the spy/secret agent genre, and I thought I'd put together a little list of some of the best, because maybe you're looking for a good spy comedy to fill your evening.

So let's begin:

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Based on the classic television show, Guy Ritchie brought the comedic talents of both Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill onto the big screen, and even though the movie isn't stitched together with laugh after laugh it is full of moments that make you laugh out loud. The banter between Cavill and Hammer is one of the highlights of the film as you watch the two men grow to accept the others strengths as they are discovered while still wishing the other was dead.

Spy

Melissa McCarthy shines in Paul Feig's brilliant comedy about a desk bound CIA analyst as she is thrust into a dangerous mission. Bringing a strong supporting cast of Jude Law, Allison Janney, Miranda Hart and the over the top Jason Statham only adds to the hilarity that ensues as we watch Melissa's character learn how to be a real spy.

I Spy

Another film based on a television show from the mid 60s, I Spy finds Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy partner up on a dangerous mission. The partnership is filled with laughs as both actors are known for their own unique blend of humor and they mesh incredibly well on screen. Owen Wilson plays the slightly jaded covert spy and Eddie Murphy, the loud-mouthed professional boxer and together the partnership seems doomed from the start but they wind up being a great team.

Knight And Day

Bringing together Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as a rogue secret agent and a normal young woman sets the stage for some great comedic moments as Cruise goes overboard on his portrayal of the secret agent. Cruise has been known to play a few spies over the years and in this movie he shows off the charm and quick wit that we grew to love in his early days. Diaz has always been able to bring her own unique style of humor to her movies and the two together bring enough laughs to lighten up your night.

Johnny English

Rowan Atkinson has always been a riot in nearly everything he's ever been in, and Johnny English continues that trend. As the most unintelligent spy and ultimately Britain's only and last hope, Johnny English is filled to the brim with comic hilarity. Johnny English is the epitome of spy spoofs, and even knowing that doesn't detract from it being a great spy adventure.

Get Smart

One more television revival from the 1960's, Get Smart truly does live up to legacy created by the show. Steve Carell joins Anne Hathaway, Terry Crews, David Koechner & Dwayne Johnson in this incredibly funny spy adventure with one of the brightest - yet socially awkward spies that the world has ever seen. Steve Carell is one of the funniest actors around and he smartly portrays Maxwell Smart as the comedic hero that he is.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

What happens when you put Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong, Michael Caine and newcomer Taron Eggerton in the same movie? - You get Kingsman: The Secret Service which is truly a breath of fresh air to the spy comedy. From the overblown characteristics of the villain to the humorous tones of the primary protagonists, Kingsman truly brings an incredible amount of comedy to the screen along with great action scenes.

Bad Company

When the Harvard-educated CIA Agent is killed during an operation, the CIA's plan is to replace him with his street-wise hustler of a twin brother. The premise alone is enough to evoke a laugh, but when that brother is Chris Rock then you know you're in for a great ride. Pair him up with one of the greatest actors of a generation in Anthony Hopkins and you've got pure comedy gold as you watch the two characters grow from despising each other to forming a unique bond of friendship.

Austin Powers

The quintessential Mike Myers comedy brings more laughs than you can imagine as we meet Austin Powers (Myers) a groovy secret agent who was brought out of cryo-freeze to face off against his greatest enemy, Dr. Evil (Myers). The movie is so over the top as it pits two bumbling characters against each other in this brilliant spy comedy. Yeah, Baby!

This Means War

Chris Pine versus Tom Hardy in an epic battle to win over the woman that they both happen to be dating, Reese Witherspoon. The two men wage a war against each other while attempting to evade a international criminal as he plots his revenge against them for killing his brother. The two friends use all their spy tricks in this riotous film which truly will make you laugh hysterically.
