10 Supernatural Characters who Could Enter the MCU now 'Doctor Strange' Has Introduced Magic!

2016 goes down in history as the year the MCU went magical! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. dived head-first into the world of the supernatural with Robbie Reyes's Ghost Rider and the most dangerous book of spells in the world — the Darkhold! Meanwhile, Doctor Strange introduces us to the Sorcerer Supreme, the Masters of the Mystic Arts, and a whole lot more!

So, with sorcery now so firmly embedded in the MCU, which other mystical characters are we itching to see? Here are my top 10:

10. Merlyn

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Low

The name 'Merlin' will be familiar to anyone who knows the English legends of Camelot — or to anyone who's watched Disney's The Sword in the Stone! In the MCU, Merlyn is one of the most powerful sorcerers of all time. He is tied to the powerful enchantments that gave superhero Brian Braddock the powers of Captain Britain, and he's noted for having powers that transcend time and space. So you certainly can't rule out an appearance from Merlyn!

In March this year, there were surprising rumors that Marvel TV was considering a live-action Captain Britain TV series. There are two problems; first, we haven't heard anything more since March, and Marvel TV tend to announce most of their pitches. Most significantly, though, we actually have no way of knowing whether Marvel or Fox has the rights to Captain Britain. He's traditionally been associated with the X-Men — his sister Psylocke was played by Olivia Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse and he's a long-standing member of the X-Men spin-off team, Excalibur. So even if that rumor had substance to it, we don't actually know if that series would have been part of the MCU.

9. Daimon Hellstrom

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Possible, but as yet unlikely

In the 1970s, Stan Lee hit upon an idea that kind of freaked his own staff out; he wanted to launch a comic called Mark of Satan, starring Satan himself! Legendary comic book writer Roy Thomas felt this was asking for trouble, and countered with a different pitch; Son of Satan, starring the new character Daimon Hellstrom. An occult investigator who battles the dark forces — principally his own father — Daimon is a powerful mystic.

In the comics, Daimon actually married the character Hellcat (Patsy Walker, played by Rachael Taylor in Netflix's Jessica Jones). He's principally a tragic character, though; he even doomed his relationship with Hellcat by pushing her away, feeling she'd be better off without him.

Perhaps Hellstrom's most fascinating appearance is in the fan-favorite Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire miniseries. This featured Hellstrom teaming up with the Ghost Rider to prevent the rise of the Antichrist. Given that Gabriel Luna is playing Robbie Reyes's Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, it's possible we'll see Hellstrom make his debut.

8. Satana

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Fair

Unlike her brother Daimon Hellstrom, Satana — daughter of Satan himself — was brought up to honor her father. She's skilled in black magic, and her spirit was bonded to an evil spirit called a Basilisk in order to increase her power. She was ultimately banished to Earth, though, as a succubus; she seduces men and then steals their souls.

For all she started out as a villain, over time Satana has become something of a hero Tied to this mortal world, she became an ally of Doctor Strange for a time (even rescuing him from a werewolf curse at one point). Her devotion to her father was lost due to her suffering at his hands, and she's raised armies against Hell on more than one occasion.

I can't help feeling that Satana would fit the darker tone of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4. I doubt that the show will actually introduce us to Satan, but I can see Satana as a mystical enemy who is ultimately defeated by Ghost Rider; or possibly even as a foe-who-turns-ally against a greater supernatural threat.

7. Wiccan

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Very low

One of the most popular of the Young Avengers, Wiccan and his brother Speed are the children of the Scarlet Witch. Wiccan shares his mother's powers, making him potentially one of the most powerful characters in the entire MCU. He's most loved, though, for the relationship he's built up with fellow Young Avenger Hulkling — the two are essentially Marvel's most well-known gay couple.

It's possible that Wiccan could eventually appear in the MCU, but I suspect that it won't be for some time. Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch is still at a very early stage of her superhero journey, and I doubt she's going to get around to magicking up some children anytime soon!

6. Brother Voodoo

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Good

Jericho Drumm is one of Marvel's most powerful sorcerers, and actually replaced Doctor Strange as Sorcerer Supreme for a time! His story is intimately tied to that of Daniel Drumm, his deceased brother, whose spirit acts as his guide and counselor. He's been used by Marvel to add voodoo-style sorcery to their mystic books, making for some pretty fun adventures.

Significantly, Doctor Strange introduces us to the character of Daniel Drumm, played by Mark Anthony Brighton. I'm not going to give you any spoilers in this article, but I will note that very few are expecting Daniel Drumm to survive the film. If that's the case, then we're a major step along the road to introducing Brother Voodoo.

5. Enchantress

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Low

The Enchantress is one of Thor's most notable villains, and fans have eagerly longed for her MCU debut for some time. In fact, for quite a while fans hoped she'd be the main villain(ess) of Thor: Ragnarok! Enchantress is a powerful sorceress who particularly enjoys playing with the minds of men; and therein lies the problem. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already introduced us to a very similar character, Lorelei (played by Elena Satine. Conceptually, the characters are just too similar; given Enchantress isn't in Thor: Ragnarok, there's no way she'll appear in Marvel TV either.

4. Elsa Bloodstone

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Low

A fan-favorite kick-ass teenager, Elsa Bloodstone is more than a little reminiscent of Buffy (her creators deliberately steered clear from watching the series, realizing they could blunder into repeating Joss Whedon's classic show). She's the latest in a long line of Bloodstone monster-hunters, and Marvel has been trying to increase her comic book presence since last year's "Secret Wars" event (she most recently appeared in the now-discontinued A-Force book).

I can't see Elsa making an appearance in the movies any time soon, and conceptually she's a little too similar to Buffy to work as a TV series; everyone would just keep comparing the two shows, with Elsa inevitably falling short. That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we got some Bloodstone references in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4.

3. Clea

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Very high

Doctor Strange's greatest love, Clea is actually of the same race as the Dread Dormammu himself. In the comics, she and Strange eventually married (granted, according to a rite from the Dark Dimension!). To give you an idea of Clea's power levels, in the comics she's Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension, and has pretty much become Doctor Strange's equal.

You can't tell the story of Stephen Strange without touching upon Clea at some point. Although Doctor Strange uses Rachel McAdams's Christine Palmer as Strange's love interest, I can't help suspecting that Strange's growth as a sorcerer will inevitably set the two on different paths. It can only be a matter of time before we meet the MCU's Clea.

2. Nico Minoru

Likelihood of appearing in the MCU: Very high

Leader of Marvel's Runaways, Nico is a sorceress who wields the powerful Staff of One. This relic can be used to perform any single spell — once. Like the rest of the Runaways, Nico discovered that her parents were in fact supervillains; the kids went on the run, and successfully destroyed their parents' criminal empire.

We know that a Runaways series is in the works, which makes Nico Minoru is a certainty to crop up soon. In actual fact, her mother Tina Nimoru was cast for Doctor Strange — she was played by up-and-coming actress Linda Louise Duan! Sadly the key scenes were cut from the theatrical release, but hopefully we'll soon see the character on the small screen!

1. Blade

Likelihood appearing in the MCU: Eventually

Played by Wesley Snipes in the remarkably successful Blade trilogy, this vampire hunter is one bad-ass warrior who takes on the creatures of the night! Blade is a vampire himself, but one who can walk in the sun, and he tears through his enemies like a knife through butter.

We keep hearing rumblings that Marvel has something in the works about Blade, but the reality seems to be that they're keeping the character on hold until they're ready for him to make his MCU debut. As far as most fans are concerned, that day can't come soon enough! For me, Blade has to be the one supernatural character I'm itching to see join the MCU at last.

So there you are — the top ten mystical and supernatural characters I'd love to see join the MCU! Ranging from sorcerers like Nico Minoru to half-demons like Satana and Daimon Hellstrom, it's a tour of Marvel's top mystical figures. With Doctor Strange having introduced us all to the MCU's sorcerers, it's surely only a matter of time before we meet some of them!
