With a new book about Mia Thermopolis recently released, the twelve year old me was revisiting the old days of Mia and her friends in both book and movie form. In light of the newest book, I thought I would share some of the facts pertaining to the movie

Most of Mia's Pre-makeover hair is actually fake.

Filmmakers added another layer of hair to clip onto her natural hair to give it a bushier look. Her eyebrows were worked on for an hour every day to give it that "bushy man eyebrow" look.

Prince Renaldo was played by Anne Hathaway's real father.

We see one picture and a behind the back shot of the Prince of Genovia who, in true Disney fashion, was killed off before the beginning of the movie for reasons unknown.

It was shot on Stage 2 of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

The same stage where Mary Poppins was filmed. Julie Andrews starred as the titular character in the classic film, and played Mia's grandmother, Clarisse Renaldo, in The Princess Diaries. It has since been named after her.

Clarisse and Joe's relationship was not in the script.

Hector Elizondo and Julie Andrews came up with the dance scene as well as showing the underlying affection between the two characters.

Charlotte was played by director Gary Marshall's Daughter.

She played the assistant to the Queen. He also used his granddaughter's in the movie as the little girls who asked Mia for an autograph

Michael's band is real.

"Fly Paper'' was actually actor Robert Schwartzman's real band Rooney, for which he does vocals and guitar for, not keyboard. You can actually see him play guitar briefly in a scene at the school, however.

Only the Queen gets the really expensive jewelry.

Julie Andrews' jewelry in the final scene of the movie cost half a million dollars, and were on loan from Harry Winston. However, Anne's tiara was made specifically for her, and was made mostly from cubic zirconia - so it cost far less.

Anne Hathaway got the role because she was so clumsy.

She fell off of her chair during the audition. It was then that the filmmakers knew that they had found their princess.

The Princess Diaries was Anne Hathaway's first movie.

We can thank Disney and their wonderful team for discovering this beautiful young woman.

The movie was actually based on a book series.

The movie, The Princess Diaries was actually based on a book series of the same name. The series was written by Meg Cabot and spanned over the course of 19 different novels, including the main books, little novellas and the two books that are set to be released this summer, Royal Wedding and From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess.

The movie was incredible as a standalone, and spawned a sequel based on the characters, though it had nothing to do with the books. The original movie had a lot of the same concepts, but diverged a lot with making her grandmother nice, changing some of the character's names, changing location and, oh yeah, KILLING OFF HER DAD. Though Meg does poke fun of this in her books.

Whether you are a fan of just the movies, or enjoy it and the book, The Princess Diaries is a story that any girl can enjoy about being true to yourself and finding the princess in all of us.
