Here are 12 movies, one from each month of the year, that are sure to make a splash at the box office:

Release Date: Friday, January 5th

The Last Key is the fourth instalment in the Insidious franchise. Lin Shaye returns to reprise her role as Elise Rainier. The film follows on from the events that took place in Insidious: Chapter Three; Elise and Tucker move on to investigate supernatural happenings in a house in New Mexico.

It's not surprising that Insidious is returning for the fourth time. Let's face it, when do horror films ever die? You'd have thought the third chapter would be the end, but horror films never seem to end, just look at The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; they're still making spin offs and sequels today.

The home in which Elise is investigating in The Last Key is the home she grew up in. The Last Key takes place before all the other films in the franchise. The Insidious films have all been successful, so there's no doubt that this film won't follow in its predecessor's footsteps.

Also out this month: The Commuter, Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

Release Date: Friday, February 9th

"Don't miss the climax."—Promises the trailer

Expect drama, and lots of it. There are whips, guns, and weddings. First of all, Christian and Anastasia get married, then a beautiful architect sets her sights on Christian. Ana has got some competition in the third and final instalment. Finally, Kim Basinger reprises her role as Elena, the woman responsible for Christian being the way he is. It promises to be an eventful final chapter.

Also out this month: Black Panther, Peter Rabbit.

Release Date: Friday, March 2nd

Red Sparrow is a film based on the novel of the same name, written by Jason Matthews. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Dominika, a Russian Prima ballerina who shatters her ankle. This is the end of her ballerina career, which sends her on a destructive path of lashing out. However, this lands her in a training academy for Russain spies.

It is a very much R-rated film. There's bloody violence, steamy sex scenes, and nudity. The film explores all aspects of its story. Jennifer Lawrence endured ballet lessons in order to perfect her character and also underwent training to pull off a Russain accent. This could be one of her best performances and, yes, even after Mother! It sounds like it's going to be a graphic film so prepare yourselves.

Also out this month: Tomb Raider, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Love, Simon, Midnight Sun.

Release Date: Friday, April 13th

Who doesn't love a good X-Men film? I, for one, love them, and TheNew Mutants shouldn't be a letdown. First of all, it's got an awesome cast, from Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones) to Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Split).

However, it's going to be a very different movie in the X-Men franchise. Because of the success of Logan and Deadpool, both of which were completely new and different superhero films, director Josh Boone wants to follow in their footsteps by creating a superhero movie with a twist. This twist comes in the shape of horror. So instead of an action superhero movie, expect a horror superhero movie.

"We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe."—Josh Boone
"There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We're trying to do something very, very different."—Josh Boone

He's thinking outside of the superhero box, which is what Logan and Deadpool did. The characters in this movie are in an asylum and that just screams horror, doesn't it? Prepare for an exciting film, because it looks like it could be a huge hit.

Also out this month:A Quiet Place, Rampage, Truth Or Dare.

Release Date: Friday, May 4th

It feels like we've been waiting for this film forever, and five months from now, the first chapter of what promises to be a captivating ending, to what has been an extraordinary roller-coaster ride, finally hits our screens.

The start of the trailer features a voiceover by Samuel L. Jackson, where he says "There was an idea..."

Is this a hint? Could we expect to see Samuel L. Jackson return as Nick Fury? I sure hope so, and I'm sure many fans will, as he is the reason the Avengers came together in the first place. It's only right that we see him return in their final battle, surely.

There's a lot the trailer has to offer, including Thor meeting the Guardians. The Avengers and the Guardians have never been in a film together yet, so the fact that they're coming together for the first time is really exciting and it promises to be one of the biggest movies of the year.

Also out this month:Solo: A Star Wars Story, A Star Is Born.

Release Date: Friday, June 1st

The sequel to the film that took the world by storm in 2016 and became the second highest grossing R-rated movie in history, after it had the biggest opening weekend of all time, hits theatres next year. Check out the description of the film below:

“After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste,” reads the synopsis. “Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the Yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”

Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz join the cast as two new mutants, Cable and Domino, respectively. The film will be the 12th instalment in the X-Men film series as The New Mutants will hit screens earlier than Deadpool 2, that being the 11th instalment.

Also out this month:Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Ocean's Eight, The Incredibles 2.

7. July: 'Ant-Man & The Wasp'

Credit: Marvel Studios

Release Date: Friday, July 6th

Rumours are that Ant-Man & The Wasp will be set after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War. Not much has been revealed about the sequel to Ant-Man, which comes as no surprise; it is Marvel, after all. This will be the twentieth Marvel film when it's released.

Evangeline Lilly has hinted at what Ant-Man & The Wasp could mean for the MCU.

"In Ant-Man and the Wasp, they are trying everything in their power to safely enter the quantum realm and return back from it because they have evidence from the first film that Scott Lang was able to do that. If he can do it, why can't we? If we do succeed in 'Ant-Man and the Wasp,' then that does open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in. I'm not the story creator, so I can't tell you what they're going to do with that. But I definitely see the potential there."—Evangeline Lilly

Does this mean The Avengers could enter this new multi-verse? The opportunities for these characters are endless.

Also out this month:Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, The Purge: The Island, Mission: Impossible 6.

8. August: 'The Equalizer 2'

Credit: Den of Geek

Release Date: Friday, August 3rd

After the success of the first movie, Denzel Washington is set to return as Robert McCall, along with director Antoine Fuqua. Ashton Sanders (Moonlight) has joined the cast and is set to make a bond with Robert McCall, McCall becoming a somewhat father figure to the young man.

Not much has been revealed about the sequel, but there is no reason why it can't be just as big a hit as the first one.

Also out this month:The Predator, The Meg, Scarface.

9. September: 'Robin Hood: Origins'

Credit: Den Of Geek

Release Date: Friday, September 21st

Starring Kingsman's Taron Egerton (Egsy) along with Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan, Robin Hood returns in another outing. Taron Egerton was sceptical to take part in the film at first, but the director convinced him.

"I was approached not long after the first 'Kingsman' movie had come out, and my initial response, to be totally honest, was Why? But Otto Bathurst told me he wanted to do something entirely revisionist, something that can’t be tied down to a medieval universe. The first act of the movie, these scenes crusading in Syria, were written like something from 'The Hurt Locker.' It was fantastic, and that was enough to convince me."—Taron Egerton

This Robin Hood is going to be completely different. The director is taking a grittier approach, with many saying it feels like a Katherine Bigelow film.

“Those other Robin Hoods don’t mean shit. Our Robin Hood, it’s on. We’re battling, gonna drop the same day. What’s different about ours? It’s just a grittier take. With Otto Bathurst directing, it’s just a grittier take. It’s not like in the Sherwood Forest, tights and all that. It’s not like that. It’s grittier, a more real version, if that makes sense. But no disrespect to anyone else’s Robin Hood.”—Jamie Foxx

It sounds like this Robin Hood film is going to be a new take on the others and could be a huge hit among fans.

Also out this month:The House With A Clock In Its Walls, Smallfoot, Night School.

10. October: 'Bad Times At The El Royale'

Credit: Comingsoon.net

Release Date: Friday, October 5th

Everything is still under wraps about this film at the minute, even the genre, although it is rumoured to be a thriller. Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges are set to unite with Drew Goddard as director. Remember the film The Cabin In The Woods? Well, Goddard directed that, so we're in safe hands.

The film is set in the 1960s in a run-down hotel. The hotel is called the El Royale. The characters in the film are all wrapped up in agendas.
