I did this backwards because I didn't have a Vocal account when season one came to be. Look through my profile for my season two recap. Before I get started, if you are triggered by sexual assault or suicide, please be careful with this post and the show. Also, spoilers ahead, so if you haven't watched this show, please do so and come back later. So here is what we learned in season one.

The season opened up with us learning that one of the students had killed herself and had left behind cassette tapes that came with instructions. The tapes are to be passed on through the list of the 13 people who played a part in her death. The person who is listening the tape is Clay, who was a friend of Hannah; this creates the narration of the season. Each episode is dedicated to one of the tapes and the role the person on the tapes had in the death of Hannah. The story is told through the narration of Hannah and her memories or flashbacks. We also see the aftermath of the suicide.

The first tape and episode is dedicated to Justin. Hannah had a crush on Justin and they met up once after school, then the rumors started that maybe something more happened on the meet up or date than a kiss. That's really where the problems started. She blames Justin for the start of the rumors and the problems. It is also suggested that maybe people who were on the tapes thought that Hannah was lying about everything.

The second tape and episode is dedicated to Jessica. Jessica and Hannah moved to town at the same time and became friends quickly. We also see how Hannah and Jessica get introduced to Alex. Alex was a creative type and an outcast. The trio would hang out at the local coffee shop. After a while, Alex was the first to stop going to the hang outs, and then Jessica stopped going. One day at school Hannah, figured out that Jessica and Alex were dating. Hannah, Alex and Jessica were friends through the situation with Justin. Hannah blames Jessica for being a bad friend. Jessica and Alex went on a date at the movie theater Hannah worked at. We also see that Justin had been missing school. He was also missing basketball practice. The idea of the students wanting to protect themselves from getting in trouble over the tapes surfaces. When Jessica and Alex broke up, Jessica blamed Hannah. Jessica is one of the ones who believes Hannah lied. We find out that Justin had been hiding out at Bryce's for the day using drugs, and Jessica asks him about Clay possibly telling someone about the tapes, and she asks him if Hannah is lying. We also learn that Tony is helping Hannah's parents through this time.

Episode 3 is dedicated to Alex, who made a list of girls who had the best whatever or was the best looking. Hannah was voted best butt, and she blames Alex for continuing the rumors or at least making them worse. There was more mention of the Baker's (Hannah's parents) lawsuit. Alex is trying to keep Clay from talking to anyone about Hannah and the tapes. Justin is still hiding out at Bryce's house. We also meet Skye, who becomes a bigger character in season two. Mr. Porter has been talking to the students and asking questions about Hannah. We also learn that Alex broke up with Jessica because she wouldn't have sex with him, and he put Hannah on the list for the same reason (and he wanted to piss Jessica off). At the end of this episode, it looks like Alex almost tried to drown himself.

I will do a part two at least, but I don't want to make these posts too long, so stay tuned.
