Could any of these actresses be our Captain Marvel?

Captain Marvel has become one of the most highly anticipated Marvel movies that does not have Avengers in the title. While the speculation on who will play Carol Danvers has been high, we have yet to even get a rumor from the Marvel camp regarding a possible casting.

Even with the rumors that she was close to appearing in Age of Ultron, we cannot get many answers to this question. Who is going to play her?

Well I have compiled a list of 25 actresses, some A-listers and some unknowns, but all worthy in my opinion. While some may make you question my sanity, I hope you keep and open mind and just enjoy the speculation.

Let's get started...

25. Francesca Eastwood

In case you didn't know; yes she is the daughter of Clint Eastwood, and half-sister of Scott Eastwood. While she is the daughter of one of the most famous actors in history, she is an unknown to anyone who did not watch Mrs. Eastwood & Company. Her acting credits have been light, but in the minor roles such as True Crime and The Stars That Fall on Henrietta, she performed admirably. I have her on this list for one due to looks, and two because of her potential. The only negative is that she is only 21. Unless Marvel plans on making a younger Carol Danvers, then this will probably not come to fruition.

24. Laurie Holden

Best known for her dramatic role of Andrea on The Walking Dead, she proved her comedic shops in Dumb and Dumber To. She can act among the best of Marvel, and keep up in the comedy department.

23. Gillian Jacobs

You will best know her for her role on Community. She can do any comedy role under the sun. But can she pull off the dramatic and action, that being an Avenger requires?

22. Rosamund Pike

After seeing her in Gone Girl I am convinced she is extremely underrated. A talented actress that has a chance to catapult into stardom with a starring role in the MCU.

21. Maggie Gyllenhaal

She is no stranger to the superhero genre, after starring in the The Dark Knight. She has been doing more under the radar roles, like the limited series The Honorable Woman, in which she has been nominated for multiple awards. She would be a good fit for the role of Carol Danvers, if she actually wants to be a part of a mainstream movie franchise.

20. Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams in Aloha

Coming off of her recent film Aloha, McAdams continues to be the girl next door of Hollywood. She is not well versed in action movies, but as far as acting ability and looks, she is a solid choice.

19. Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson in Empire

Taraji P. Henson is obviously not the spitting image of Carol Danvers, but she is a great fit for the role. She plays a strong woman, and could pull off the military officer role well. She is one of my favorite actresses right now, and while she does not have many action roles under her belt, I believe she could pull it off.

18. Emma Watson

Another young actress, that may be too young to play a Carol Danvers like in the comics. But she is very talented, and a good fit for a role like this. Already a well known actress, she is the type of star Marvel likes to cast.

17. Taylor Schilling

Schilling's has few acting credits, but plays a very diverse character on ONB. She has a good look for Carol Danvers. Maybe a little petite. I would rather have a phenomenal actress, that may not have a lot of muscle definition, than someone with a muscular physic who is a weak actor/actress (I am looking at you Rhonda Rousey...please don't hurt me).

16. Natalie Dormer

A fierce actress from her roles in The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones. She has been talked about by many fans for the role, and with good reason. She is an up and comer in Hollywood, and whether she gets this role or not, you will be hearing her name more often.

15. Jessica Chastain

She has publicly stated that she wants to play a superhero. I see no better fit for her in the superhero world than Captain Marvel. Great underrated actress, that would do the role justice.

14. Britt Robertson

Coming off two block buster movies: Tommorrowland and The Longest Ride; Britt Robertson is making her way up in Hollywood. At only 21-years old she is putting herself in position to be an A-list actress very soon. She is of course a little young for the role of Carol Danvers, but it doesn't take away from her very high potential to be the best choice for the role.

13. Shelley Hennig

I honestly was unsure of Miss Hennig as an actress until I watched her in Unfreinded. Her performance was chilling (along with the movie). Very talented actress, who could put a unique spin on Carol Danvers. While she looks young, she is actually 28-years old.

12. Vera Farmiga

Best known as the mother to the future psychopath Norman Bates, on Bates Motel. Farmiga had been circling Hollywood for a long time before she found a home at Bates Motel, and she took advantage of it. She has stood out as an actress, and proven to have great range. Whether or not she can lead a movie franchise, or play such a dynamic role like Carol Danvers will need to be proven, but she deserves a shot.

11. Riley Keough

I guarantee you have seen Riley Keough act, and do not even know it. If you do not recognize her, then I will tell you: she played Capable, one of the wives of Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road. She performed great alongside the likes of Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult, and of course Charlize Theron. She also has three more movies lined up for 2015. An unknown choice for Carol Danvers, but a solid one.

Fun fact: she is actually Elvis Presley's granddaughter.

10. Katheryn Winnick

Winnick has had her name mentioned by fans a lot regarding the role of Carol Danvers. She has the look, acting chops, and perfect style for the role. If Marvel is not considering her, they should.

9. Gwendoline Christie

Another Games of Thrones actress. She is a towering actress at 6'3, more than capable of standing toe-to-toe with Iron Man and Captain America. Capable actress, that fits very well for this role.

8. Jennifer Lawrence

An A-lister of A-listers. Lawrence is well versed in action roles from carrying the Hunger Games franchise. Marvel loves to make big casting moves, and you cannot get much bigger than J-Law. This would be a huge get for Marvel if they can put her in a superhero role.

7. Sienna Miller

Had a near Oscar winning performance in American Sniper. She is one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood right now with 8 films lined up for 2015. If she could clear her busy schedule and make room for a Marvel franchise, then she would absolutely own the role.

6. Carey Mulligan

An brilliant actress, who is severely underrated. She takes on many dramatic TV and movie roles that keep her under the radar, but she has the most talent of anyone on this list. If she got this role in the MCU, her star would blow up.

Emily Blunt in Edge of Tommorrow

One of the best action actresses in Hollywood right now. She is a perfect fit, and has the right amount of star power that Marvel loves to cast for their superheroes.

4. Yvonne Strahovski

32-year old actress who got to shine in 24: Live Another Day. She showed off her dramatic acting chops, but can she be the leading lady in a block buster film? She has the perfect look for Carol Danvers, and I believe has the talent for the role.

3. Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley in Insurgent

In my opinion, the best actress in Hollywood currently. She has dramatic, action, and even comedy roles under her belt. She has all the qualification to stand among the Avengers as Captain Marvel. Dye her hair blonde, and she is perfect.

2. Eugenia Kuzmina

This is a completely unknown name. But outside of looking like Carol Danvers ripped off the page blonde, blue eyes, and 5'9 she is perfect for an MCU role. She has had plenty of dramatic and action roles, but is also a stand up comedian. Has a great personality and sense of humor. She is from Russia, and needs to be able to pull off the American accent, but outside of that, she is the perfect fit for Captain Marvel.

Only second to the next and final candidate...

1. Charlize Theron

Do I even need to explain this? It is Furiosa! How could Charlize Theron be given a superhero role, and not knock it out of the park? Marvel should be knocking down her door to get her into any role in the MCU. She has the action, drama, smart ass comedy style, and look to be the best superhero in the MCU to date.
