27 Superpowers You Never Knew Power Rangers Had

While the show is famous for the multicoloured spandex, combat, and giant megazord battles, here is a list of every superpower featured in the franchise.

Power Rangers'(2017) reinvented the original team of Rangers and gave them all superpowers to harness, which viewers enjoyed. However, this was not the first time Rangers have had superpowers outside of the multicoloured spandex and Zords. This article will list 27 superpowers that Rangers have had during the 27 years (and counting) of the franchise.

27. Enhanced Memory

Rose should have been powered by an elephant; she never forgets.

While many instantly remember the super intelligence of Billy, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1994-1995), Rose takes her super-brain to a new level. The Avengers should actually be glad Thanos did not have a lady like her in his ranks, as she would have found the Infinity Gauntlet and Stones in a matter of days. Her enhanced memory enabled her to spot small details, make connections missed by other, and the ability to remember everything. These skills allowed her team to complete their mission in collecting the jewels of the Corona Aurora, and surpass any mystery put before them. I know Jewels and Stones... Thanos could have really done well with her.

26. Sixth Sense

Maya had an ability to sense things that others could not.

Maya is officially from an alien world, Mirinoi, so you could argue she is an alien, and this may not count as a true superpower. But I am including it. Maya had a sixth sense, and I am not talking about a Bruce Willis film where he is actually dead. For Maya it would allow her to get feelings and instincts to react to from the energies around her. This helped warn her and the other Rangers in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999) of oncoming threats, dangers and even new allies. It was never established if all her people had this ability or if it was unique to Maya, but needless to say, her team sure found the ability useful.

25. Camouflage

Trent can blend in anywhere.

Not in an army cameo overalls style, but actually blending into his surroundings, Trent gained the ability to camouflage himself. The power came from his white dino gem and helped him discover some family truths, enabling him to finally join the Rangers in the fight against his father and Mesogog. While it wasn't pure invisibility, it did have plenty of advantages for Trent, but it was shown in the series only a few times. Perhaps being bad for a portion of the series makes you want to stand out, and not blend in, once you are working on the side of good.

24. Enhanced Hearing and Telescopic Vision

Did you hear that? Well Will from Operation Overdrive sure did. Having heightened hearing and telescopic vision may not sound like much of a superpower, but when you are in a race to gain artefacts before villainous groups, it is actually pretty handy. Acting as an early warning system for his team, he would often take a vantage point to gain intel for their mission. It, even on the odd occasion, gave the team keen insight or assistance to a problem only he could see or hear.

23. Animal Communication

Dr Dolittle (1998) is not the only one who can talk to animals. A couple of Rangers have had this ability also. Maya (Lost Galaxy) and Cole from Power Ranger Wild Force (2002) both had the ability to communicate with animals. For Maya it was more verbal communication, and she would hold conversations with the Galactabeasts, but with Cole he could understand the intentions of anything with a heart. This ability greatly helped the Rangers in communicating with the living Wild Zords. But it also made him a walking polygraph, as he could tell if they were lying.

22. Water Manipulation

Another group of aliens, known as Aquitian, were Rangers of Aquitar who aided the Rangers in Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (1996). Their planet was covered in vast oceans and the people all live under these seas, think Waterworld (1995) but nicer. This allowed them to manipulate water, and shoot torrents from their hands. While some may argue they are aliens, so this is not a true superpower, they did live on Earth and out of water, which could be considered extreme resilience for their physiology, as we tend not to last long if we are forced out of our natural environment.

21. Shape Shifting

While the Skrulls may have brought this power to the big screens recently in Captain Marvel (2019), Power Rangers Ninja Steel (2017) had a shapeshifter in their ranks. Mick could turn himself into all manner of things, mainly for survival purposes, and not to infiltrate organisations. But he is not alone, as Vida the Pink Mystic Ranger also used her magic often to turn into various objects. While it may seem crazy, this ability, along with patience, could provide endless intel for any team, just think of Mystique.

20. Aura Sensory

Okay, this may be a strange sounding power to many, but Trip from Power Rangers SPD (2005) had the ability to sense auras. This ability allowed him to see events that had occurred at a site prior to his team's arrival. With the team being a futuristic police force, it is easy to see how this power was invaluable to his comrades, as he could often find key information for them that they would have missed without him in their ranks. Granted it takes the fun out of crime fighting, but it sure is quicker.

19. Enhanced Agility and Super Jumping

Another Ranger from Operation Overdrive, Dax was a Hollywood stunt actor. So naturally his superability allowed him to be more agile, and jump higher than any on his team. When he combined these abilities with his weapon, the Drive Vortex, it enabled him to attack from any direction in quick striking succession. While he can not lift a car above his head like Superboy, he can easily get out of the way of anything coming his way through massive leaps just like the boy of steel.

18. Size Alteration

While Antman (2015) may have made shrinking and growing a power to admire, Power Rangers have been growing in size for a couple of decades. The first was in Power Rangers Zeo, as the Rangers faced King Mondo in a final battle. But, Magna Defender (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy), Koragg the Wolf Warrior, and the White Mystic Force Ranger (Power Rangers Mystic Force) all had the ability to grow giant sizes at will and even the battle against giant monsters. Who needs a Zord...

17. Skin Hardening

Ethan was granted a special ability through his blue dino gem, the ability to harden his skin like a triceratops. While it may seem an unappealing ability, it did increase the force of his strikes on his targets, and even doubled as a shield against incoming attacks. That alone makes it a diverse power, and has so far, only been seen in Dino Thunder. It may not be full blown Colossus with metal skin, it appears to be just as effective as steel skin. Also a pure computer nerd with this ability is kind of poetic.

16. Remote Teleportation

No need to cry "beam me up Scotty" in SPD, instead you just call in Sam who had the ability to teleport. The power came from his genetic mutation from when he was a child, the same way all the other SPD Rangers obtained their abilities. However, Sam's was unique as it was never used in combat, but more to get him from A to B as quickly as possible. I guess as a futuristic police officer, it is a hand ability to have.

15. Telekinesis

Come on, it's a classic! No surprise telekinesis has been used by a few Rangers, but it is questionable if they count? The three being Andros, Zane, and Karone, all from the planet KO-35 in Power Rangers in Space (1998) & Lost Galaxy. It appeared to be a talent of all their people, but Andros did say he would try to teach Ashley, the Yellow Space Ranger, the ability. This does suggest that these powers come down to mental discipline, and not genetics, meaning potentially any Ranger could wield this ability with practice.

14. Super Strength

Another comic book classic is super strength, and Katie from Power Rangers Time Force (2001) was the first to portray the unique talent. With ease this lady can literally lift anything. Other Rangers have had enhanced strength through the years, but Katie could probably arm wrestle the lot of them with ease, making her perhaps the strongest Ranger of all time. The next question is... could she beat the Hulk? OK fanboy craze ensue!

13. Density Manipulation

Perhaps best known by people as an ability seen by the Flash, and Martian Manhunter from DC Comics, and Kitty Pryde form Marvel; Jack from SPD had the ability to phase through pretty much anything. This enabled him to recon buildings, and land surprise attacks on numerous occasions. So far no other Rangers have had this ability, suggesting Jack's genetics are truly unique. Also, admit it, sometimes you wish you could just walk through the wall, sometimes it would be quicker.

12. Elemental Manipulation

OK, I mentioned above water manipulation, but really, many Rangers have had the ability to control the elements. The Power Rangers Ninja Storm (2003) all had various ninja skills for harnessing air, earth, water and thunder. The Power Rangers Mystic Force (2006) controlled the elements of fire, lightning, earth, water, air, the sun, the moon, and ice all through magic. But let's face it, superheroes and powers drawn by the elements is a combo no one is going to get bored of any time soon. I guess we also know which Ranger teams Storm and Thor would be on, on Power Rangers.

11. Psychic Abilities

How many of you thought of Professor X or Jean Grey when you read "psychic abilities?" Well, Trip from Time Force had the same powers. Through a crystal on his forehead he could read minds, and on the odd occasion, get a premonition of the future. Granted, he is an alien from the future, but it hasn't stopped any of the other aliens being included in this list. He did not have the best control of his abilities, but it could be due to his age, or lack of practice. Guess Professor X could teach him a thing or two.

10. Super Speed

Don't think the only speedsters are contained to Marvel and DC, Power Rangers has had a couple of zippy Rangers themselves. Connor (Dino Thunder), Ronnie (Operation Overdrive), and Devon (Power Rangers Beast Morphers) are all fast on their feet. While none of them will outrun Flash or Quicksilver any time soon, they could still beat the majority in a race to any finish line.

09. Force Field Projection

Mr. Worf, raise shields! Well, Mr. Worf is not needed this time. Tate, like all the other SPD Rangers, gained a superability as a child. For him it was to create powerful force fields, to offer protection to himself, and others, in a crisis. Given that Tate is so disciplined, you do wonder if as a child he hid behind a force field while eating all the cookies, forcing some tough love to come his way. It does make you wonder how a child would use these powers, I feel no one would be getting a cookie.

08. Cybernetic Enhancements

They can rebuild him. They have the technology. They have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. But this time it isn't Steve Austin, it is Dillion from Power Rangers RPM (2009). This Ranger was one of the humans experimented on by Venjix, and for him he was augmented with many cybernetic implants. This gave him increased strength, stamina, and speed. To truly understand how epic he was, just find a video on YouTube of his prison fight over some red jelly.

07. Invisibility

Of course the King of all Rangers got his own superpower. Tommy received the ability to turn completely invisible in Dino Thunder, as the Black Ranger, I know the fact that he's had so many colours is confusing. This ability has never been lost, as he showed he still had this power in Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel (2018). Later, Rose from Operation Overdrive also gained this power, and while she never used it as well as Tommy, you can not blame her, as she is going up against Power Ranger's answer to Batman or Wolverine.

06. Mercury Manipulation

While the X-Men have shown how metal skin can be cool on a superhero, Operation Overdrive introduced Tyzonn. Yes, he is another alien, but why change the rules now. His species had the ability to manipulate the liquid metal of mercury, which is more dangerous than it sounds. Mercury is poisonous to humans, so the Rangers need to be glad he was on their side, otherwise he could have killed them all easily. He could also throw liquid mercury at his targets for varied effects in battle.

05. Self-Replication

While Multiple Man was massively played down in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Z showed why being able to duplicate yourself is a handy superpower. Being her genetic enhancement in SPD, she could create literally an army of herself. This aided her in her time as a thief on the streets, and as a futuristic police officer. Who needs a squad to deal with a riot when you have an officer that can make a squadron of themself.

04. Magic

While Doctor Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU, Udonna is arguably the Power Rangers counterpart. She recruited the five teens, and trained them in the use of magic, teaching them spells that could turn them into Rangers, and their might Zords. The magic in the series was very elemental based, but the potions and concoctions created in Udonna's cauldron did have some surprising effects. The show also featured many mythical creatures including trolls, fairies, and dragons.

03. Animal Spirit Channeling

While Vixen can channel the spirits of animals through her totem, the Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008) are masters at enhancing the powers of animals. Each Ranger had a specific animal they could call upon, and Masters of the art appeared with their own animal spirits. They could have these spirits attack a target, and even call on them to become their might Zords. You must admit, summoning the spirit of a fierce animal seems pretty cool.

02. Molecular Alteration

While many superheroes can turn themselves into an element, e.g. metal, fire, electricity... and a few are made of different materials like, "I am Groot,"Sydney from SPD took it to a new level. Any item she held in her hands she could turn her body into. She used this effectively in combat, one time getting her hands on a diamond that sliced through robotic foes like a hot knife through butter. Far more effective than the weak diamond form of Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class (2011).

01. Sonic Scream

Black Canary has nothing on Kira from Dino Thunder, who can scream like a pterodactyl. With her yellow dino gem she gained a sonic scream, and brought a new form of superpower to Power Rangers. While she found the ability by accident, she quickly learned how to make it an ultimate offensive weapon. Luckily for her, all that screaming never affected her singing voice.

Which superpower in Power Rangers was your favourite? Which superpower do you want to see a Ranger wield?
