#DarrenAronofsky has made a name for himself by illustrating his keen ability to depict the complex nature and dark themes of his films. 2000's Requiem For A Dream warned a generation of young people about the dangers of drug addiction. 2008's The Wrestler depicted an aging professional wrestler clinging to his former glory days and 2010's Black Swan earned #NataliePortman her first Academy Award for portraying a ballerina striving for greatness.

All of these films were brilliantly directed by Aronofsky and fans have been clamoring for another story to be told in that Aronofsky style. His upcoming psychological thriller, mother! could potentially be another great addition to his impressive filmography and here are a few reasons why you should be looking forward to its release in October.

The Short Yet Terrifying Plot Synopsis

Little is known about mother! and the filmmakers have shrouded the film in secrecy. However, during this year's #CinemaCon TheWrap provided our first hint at what this anticipated flick will be all about:

"A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.”

Although it sounds vague, Paramount Domestic Distribution chief Kyle Davies promised "thrills and chills” from Aronofsky and Paramount upon the film’s Halloween-season release. Like all of his directing credits except for Black Swan, Aronofsky also penned the script along with handling directing duties. He seemingly executes his best work when pitting one entity against another. Simply thinking about how he will handle an outside source disrupting the "tranquil existence" of this couple makes us giddy with horrifying excitement.

An Insanely Talented Cast

An upcoming project with an A-list cast does not immediately equal a quality film and the amount of talent included in mother! makes it next to impossible not to have high expectations.

The impressive cast includes Aronofsky's real-life lady love #JenniferLawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Ed Harris, Brian Gleeson and Kristen Wiig. As we have seen with a number of his films including Pi (1998) and Requiem For A Dream, Aronofsky excels when handling a smaller ensemble cast. Simply watching how the combined capabilities of all these actors translate on screen in such an intriguing premise is well worth the price of admission alone.

Aronofsky Will Be Channeling His Inner Black Swan

The most exciting piece of information to come out of this story has to be the revelation that the director is going back to his Black Swan roots with mother! Aronofsky is apparently flirting with the same psychological horror that won Portman an Oscar for the unraveling ballerina she portrayed in the beloved thriller.

The internal struggles Aronofsky managed to portray in Black Swan, along with the horrifying psychological components, intrigued audiences to check out the R-rated film to the tune of almost $330 million worldwide. It is arguably one of the best works Aronofsky has directed and hearing the film stated in the same breath as mother! can (hopefully) only mean his best is yet to come.

mother! is slated for a wide release just in time for #Halloween on October 13th, 2017.
