3 Reasons Why Fin Fang Foom Will Be in 'Iron Man 4'

There have been rumors that Marvel has opened discussions on the possibility of Iron Man 4 and Robert Downey Jr. is now open to the idea.There are plenty of opinions on who could play the lead villain in the film, but I think Fin Fang Foom should be the one facing off against Stark in Iron Man 4.

Fin Fang Foom is a large dragon-like alien who came to Earth from the planet Maklu IV with the intent of taking over Earth. He has taken on several roles in Marvel Comics, but he has always been an arch rival of Iron Man. Unlike most monsters, Fin Fang Foom is intelligent and can communicate and strategize, making him a tough opponent for Tony Stark.

There has been plenty of talk about the possibility of the alien dragon appearing in the MCU, but most people are quick to say that the character would not fit very well in the current universe but I beg to differ, and here are 3 reasons why:

3. Kaiju movies are HUGE right now.

For any who do not know, a Kaiju movie is a film that tells a story involving a large monster (like Godzilla) attacking civilization. Right now movies like Pacific Rim, Cloverfield, Godzilla, and Kong: Skull Island are proving to be very popular with mainstream moviegoers.

While Marvel’s The Avengers had our heroes fighting large alien creatures, we did not get the same feel of a Kaiju film from them.

Imagine Tony Stark having to fight a giant dragon on his own and having to find a way to defeat Fin Fang Foom with the same kind of mysterious and terrifying feel of a Godzilla movie. Unless you just hate giant Monsters, I don't see how anyone could deny how amazing that would be; especially when you consider the fact that it is such a large difference from what we are used to seeing Tony take on in a solo film.

2. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Doctor Strange'

Some fans are skeptical about having Fin Fang Foom in the MCU because they feel that he would not be a realistic option for a Marvel movie. This way of thinking is pretty flawed when you consider the fact that we are talking about a movie franchise where a guy turns in to a big green monster when he gets pissed off, but I will make a counter-argument nonetheless.

We are already seeing the MCU turn towards the side of the unrealistic (or the EVEN MORE unrealistic) with Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Doctor Strange. Guardians of the Galaxy showed us just how large the MCU is, with different galaxies and planets that our heroes on Earth are not even aware of. It is not even close to far-fetched to believe that there is a planet full of giant dragons.

We also have Doctor Strange that is going to prove the existence of magic in the MCU, which brings me to my next and last reason…

1. The REAL Mandarin

Iron Man 3 gave us the debut of Iron Man’s arch villain the Mandarin. The only problem was, we did not get the Mandarin. We got Ben Kingsley playing an actor named Trevor Slattery posing as the Mandarin, while Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian was the actual “Mandarin.”

It was a plot twist that angered almost the entire Marvel fan base, since it strayed so far away from the source material. Not to mention, it wasted the perfect casting of Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin.

The good news is that Marvel learned from its mistake and made a canon short film titled All Hail the King, which tells of the aftermath from Iron Man 3, where Trevor Slattery is in jail and has become famous for his “role” as the Mandarin. It shows a man interviewing Trevor, and at the end of the interview the man revels himself to be a member of the Ten Rings and tells Trevor that the real Mandarin wants to meet him and take his name back.

This means that there is another Mandarin lurking in the depths of the MCU, but why does this matter when it comes to Fin Fang Foom?

Fin Fang Foom is actually how the Mandarin got his powers in the comics. When Fin Fang Foom arrived on Earth, the Mandarin raided his space ship and found the magic ten rings that gave him his powers. Fin Fang Foom and the Mandarin have teamed up in the comics multiple times in order to take down Iron Man.

If Marvel is looking to redeem themselves and the character of the Mandarin, then it would make sense for them to also include the character that is often paired with him.

Conclusion:

Marvel needs to find a way to make their villains more interesting and while throwing in a giant alien dragon named Fin Fang Foom sounds ridiculous, so did a talking tree and raccoon that became two of the most popular characters in the MCU. Fin Fang Foom is an interesting character with a rich history against Iron Man, he could also help bring to life the kind of Mandarin that Marvel fans deserve to see in live action.
