5 Anime to Watch This February 2019

Another month and another batch of anime to enjoy. But February has a surprise for fans, from favorite series coming back to the classic making their mark once again, the upcoming month is all about the movies. So, grab a bucket of popcorn and let's enjoy what the second month of the year has in store for us. Here are five must-see anime to watch this February.

'City Hunter Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes'

Premiere Date: February 8

Studio: Sunrise

Genre(s): Action, Mystery, Comedy, Shōnen

The cast of City Hunter is not only getting the big screen treatment but a complete novelization to boot. If you’re not familiar with Tsukasa Hojo cult manga, it follows Ryō Saeba a sniper and private eye called the "sweeper" and his partner Kaori Makimura. People hire Saeba to solve various and dangerous problems, which he does with his Colt Python .357 Magnum. But when he’s not solving a case, he's working on getting the ladies.

While the original manga and anime adaptation takes place during the 80s, the new movie will follow the Saeba and his partner in present-day Shinjuku, a special ward in Tokyo, Japan.

Set to direct the anime movie is Kenji Kodama who has led most of the previous City Hunter and Yoichi Kato writing the script for the film.

'Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion'

Premiere Date: February 15

Studio: J.C.Staff

Genre(s): Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Romance

It seems that it isn’t wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon as the fantasy comedy anime is set to return this February as a movie, Arrow of the Orion. Unlike the previous seasons, the film will be a completely original story based on the characters of Fujino Ōmori’s novels. On top of that, Ōmori will be in charge of the story.

While we don’t know much about the original movie, the trailer does provide some hints. It seems that Bell and the rest of the Hestia Familia will venture beyond the dungeon and get themselves into quite some trouble.

Katsushi Sakurabi (Flying WitchHeaven's Memo Pad) will direct the original movie instead of the TV anime’s director Yoshiki Yamakawa. While Ōmori, as we mentioned, will write the screenplay instead of the TV anime’s writers.

'Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection'

Premiere Date: February 9

Studio: Sunrise

Genre(s): Action, Drama, Mecha, Military, Sci-Fi, Super Power

After more than ten years, fans will finally see a sequel to Sunrise’s original anime, Code Geass. The film takes place two years after the events of Rebellion R2, where Zero stabs the tyrant Lelouch. While this brought peace to the world, it's short-lived. Luckily, there are a few that will do anything to bring things back to normal.

Studio Sunrise will return to animate the movie, and several voice actors will reprise their roles. On top of that, the film will have several new characters joining the story. The anime’s director, Goro Taniguchi (GUNxSWORD, Planetes) confirmed that fans could expect Lelouch’s story to come to an end, and as such become the finale for the series. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection will hit Japanese theaters this February.

'Fight League: Gear Gadget Generators'

Premiere Date: February 14

Studio: Sunrise, Bandai Namco Pictures, XFLAG

Genre(s): Action, Sci-Fi, Mecha

Based on the smartphone game by XFLAG comes Fight League: Gear Gadget Generators. In this fictional world, fighters use their prized gizmos and gadgets in battles to take part in Fight League, a tournament where the only way you can win is by Chaining—attacking in combination with your teammates—and of course a little bit of strategy. The series follows G-Wrench, who’s the leader of the Boltechs. But, things take an unexpected turn when a mysterious girl crosses their path.

Taking the helm is Daisuke Nakajima (Kino's Journey - The Beautiful World, Sket Dance ) at Bandai Namco Pictures (Gintama) with Sunrise in charge of the CG animation, and XFLAG for the original work and production. With these studios in charge, sparks will undoubtedly fly when Fight League: Gear Gadget Generators premieres on XFLAG ANIME’s YouTube channel this February 14.

'The Royal Tutor Movie'

Teaching is a thankless job, but not for Heine Wittgenstein as he and the royal princes of the Kingdom of Granzreich are set to return this February. The movie takes place after the events of the TV series. When a set of twin princes from the Kingdom of Romano make their presence known it’s up to Heine and the princes to do some educational guidance.

Much of the original staff and cast will return to reprise their role, with Katsuya Kikuchi (Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation) as the director at tear-studio (Lord of Vermilion: The Crimson King).
