6 Reasons to Be Excited About 'Westworld' on HBO

This theme park gone wrong is filled with cowboys, artificial intelligence, and a complicated maze.

During the season finale of HBO's True Detective, we were given our first glimpse into a new series being developed by Warner Brothers with Jonathan Nolan (yes he is Christopher's brother), Lisa Joy & J.J. Abrams as executive producers, and that first glimpse was breathtaking.

At only 31 seconds, it captured my attention quickly and left me wanting more, so I began scouring the internet for more information, which led me to these 5 reasons why you should be excited about Westworld.

6. Ramin Djawadi

You may not recognize that name, but you know his work nevertheless. Ramin is an orchestral composer with an outstanding track record of creating memorable scores. He is most widely known for creating the Game of Thrones theme as well as doing the music for Prison Break, Mr. Brooks, Iron Man, Pacific Rim and is set to orchestrate the upcoming Warcraft film.

5. Jonathan Nolan & J.J. Abrams

Jonathan Nolan is writer and director of the series, and we are set to have a truly breathtaking story. Nolan wrote several stories with his brother including Memento, Batman: Dark Knight and Interstellar, as well as writing the story behind Person of Interest (which is in its 4th season on CBS).

J.J. Abrams joins the producing team and brings his own extensive background of incredible storytelling skills. Together their partnership should bring the west to life in this new HBO series.

4. Theme Park Gone Wrong

Westworld is an adult theme park; an adventure where guests can battle gunslingers, explore the west, and even partake in the pleasantries of the flesh if desired. The park is composed of 'living' androids programmed with personalities and designed to be indistinguishable from the human guests.

What could possibly go wrong with an engineered theme park?

3. Ed Harris

Whether he is portraying a loving coach in Radio or a violent gangster in A History of Violence, Ed has the ability to pull the audience into his performance, which will make his character of the Man in Black even more chilling than I can imagine.

2. Anthony Hopkins

The legendary actor himself. Following in a line of well-known actors such as Halle Berry, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to name a few, Anthony Hopkins joins this show as Westworld's creative director and chief programmer who has a brilliant vision for his park, but is unorthodox in his attempts to achieve it.

1. The remaining cast

Westworld is full of incredible actors including:

  • James Marsden (X-Men, Superman Returns & Hop)
  • Evan Rachel Wood (Across the Universe, Thirteen & The Ides of March)
  • Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale, Source Code & The Hunger Games)
  • Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Dorian Grey & Stardust).

Each of these actors will be able to bring something unique to their roles in Westworld. Some of their characters will be human, and others not so much. The fun will be in learning how they respond as they learn that their world isn't exactly what they understood it to be.
