7 Spider-Man Comic Interactions We Want to See in 'Avengers: Infinity War'

This time next year we'll have had three MCU appearances from our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Thanks to Sony's deal with Marvel, fans can see Marvel's flagship hero alongside the other Avengers, just as he should be.

Tony Stark's role in Spider-Man: Homecoming is just the tip of the iceberg. In a recent live chat with Yahoo, Tom Holland revealed that Spidey will play a big role in #AvengersInfinityWar:

“When I did Civil War, I only worked with Chris (Evans) and Robert (Downey Jr.) very briefly. Everyone else was sort of like, I was acting with a tennis ball or all this sort of stuff. I saw everyone, but I never got to work with them. For this now, I’m in a situation where I’m on set with all these guys doing scenes, fighting bad guys. It’s been a real whirlwind. It’s been a lot of fun."

In the comics, #SpiderMan is a bit of a loner and didn't officially join the Avengers until after 2004's "Avengers: Disassembled" story (although he had been a reserve member since 1990 and frequently allied with the Avengers beforehand). Let's have a look at some moments in the comics we'd like to see recreated in Infinity War:

1. Marvel Team Up #5 (1972)

It'd certainly be interesting to see how Peter Parker would react to Vision's ability to become intangible, just as he perfectly summed up Giant-Man's appearance in Civil War: "Holy sh*t."

2. Guardians Team Up #9 (2015)

It's New Year's Eve and Star-Lord has returned to Earth in search of one of the universe's most dangerous weapons, stolen by our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man — or so it seems. Star-Lord shoots first and asks questions later, which leads to a rather hilarious back and forth between the two Peters.

3. Avengers Vol 5 #2 (2012)

We've already seen that Tony Stark will act as a mentor to the young hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the bond between the two of them will be stretched in the film. In the early years of Spider-Man comics, one of Peter's major concerns was money — and he was always trying to balance being Spider-Man with earning enough cash to help Aunt May.

Essentially, we've already had this type of scene in the MCU when Tony appeared in Peter's apartment to recruit him; he talks to Peter under the guise that he's going to offer him a scholarship.

4. Amazing Spider-Man Vol 3 #2 (2014)

One area of Spider-Man's character that we haven't really seen yet in the MCU is the fact that he often gets himself into some totally crazy situations. In the comics he's been cloned, turned into a man-spider, bonded with an alien symbiote and even had his brain swapped with one of his greatest foes for over a year. What's truly remarkable about all of these things is that the other Avengers accept it very easily. As a result of the mind-swap with Doctor Octopus, Peter had a lot of rebuilding to do with the Avengers — and the scene above demonstrates how easily they just roll with it.

5. Amazing Spider-Man Annual Vol 1 #3 (1966)

The MCU's Spider-Man has yet to meet Thor, which brings about some interesting possibilities. Perhaps the Asgardian will seek to test the young hero — just as how, in this comic book issue, all of the present Avengers meet Spider-Man to test whether he is a suitable candidate for the team.

6. Avengers Vol 1 #316 (1990)

After joining the Avengers in a battle in space against Nebula, Captain America formally offers Spidey the chance to join the team. Though #MCU Cap is no longer part of the Avengers, this sort of scene could be adapted in Infinity War.

7. Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 #537 (2007)

Here is another exchange when Captain America demonstrates the great respect he has for Spider-Man. Just as Peter is regretting his decision to reveal his identity, Cap tells him how he deals with having his reputation tarnished — in truly patriotic style. Though the speech appeared in Captain America: Civil War (delivered by Sharon Carter) the message he delivers to Peter is a solid one.

These are just a handful of examples of Spider-Man interacting with other heroes in the comics that we could see in Infinity War, but we'll be glad to watch whatever Marvel gives us. Let's hope it's as good as it deserves to be!
