7 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About 'Suicide Squad' Star Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie is an amazing actress, having already wowed us with her work in Focus and The Wolf of Wall Street. However, she is making headlines a lot lately for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the upcoming summer blockbuster Suicide Squad. Her performance is so strong that DC heads have already announced a Harley Quinn solo movie; they are that confident in her performance. Here are some things you might not know about Hollywood's up and coming "It" girl.

1. She started off her career on an Australian soap opera

She got her first big break as Donna Freedman on Neighbours, starting as a guest star but eventually starring on the show for three years.

2. She plays ice hockey

While it is no secret that she is a huge fan of the New York Rangers, you might not know that she is also an amateur ice hockey player herself! In an interview with Film.com, she stated:

"I always wanted to play ice hockey back in Australia, I’m not sure why, but we didn’t have any ice where I lived. It was very hot, a coastal town. So I played field hockey, but then when I moved to America I was finally able to join a team once I wasn’t contracted to a show. I was living in New York and the Rangers were my default team… And not just by default, but also because they’re the best team ever. I play on a team but I’m definitely the worst on the team. I’m not so good at the ice skating part. The hockey is good, but the ice skating I need to work on."

3. She hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face

Leo started ad-libbing during the audition read through and she started to panic. By the end of the scene she was supposed to kiss him, but walked over and hit him instead. It left an impression and she got the role.

4. She was almost a Marvel superhero

Margot actually read for Sue Storm in Josh Trank's reboot of Fantastic Four but she turned down the role.

5. She went to circus school

She actually has a certificate for trapeze. This definitely helped in the role of Harley Quinn, and in her other upcoming role as Jane in Tarzan.

6. She is actually a tomboy

Given her love of ice hockey, this shouldn't be too much of a surprise. She said in a 2008 interview on the Neighbors official site that:

“I’m happiest when I’m surfing or out on the farm hunting wild pigs, building cubbies out in the paddocks or riding around on motorbikes.”

7. She initially HATED her Wolf of Wall Street character

When first reading the script she hated the character, stating to Vogue:

“When I first read it, I thought, I have nothing in common with her. I hate her. It was a really tricky one to get my head around. But her motivation was ‘You guys are doing it—why shouldn’t I? It’s this man’s world, and I’m going to get mine.’ And I understand that.”
