8 Games I Wanted to See Included with the Mini SNES

Hey Nintendo! You missed a couple...

The news has hit that, as expected, Nintendo will be releasing a mini version of their Super Nintendo system later this year around the world. The new limited edition system will be shipped from the end of September to the end of the year after which, presumably, it will be discontinued much like the NES release that came out not too long ago. Included with the mini SNES will be twenty-one classic games, including the never before released Star Fox 2.

There are, however, a few exceptional titles that are missing from the list of included games which is why I've taken it upon myself to create a list of games that I wish were being included with the mini SNES in addition to what we are getting.

Earthworm Jim

One of the funniest games to come out of the SNES era was this platform game that is bookended by possibly the finest piece of comedy in video game history. In this game, you play an ordinary earthworm named Jim who has a super suit fall on him from space which turns him into a super earthworm who must defeat villains in order to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name. A parody of games at the time, you really can't say enough nice things about this particular instance of video game history.

Final Fight

Yes, the plot to this one was as cliché as you can get but underneath that towering mass of "been there, done that" was a fantastic fighting game which was incredibly challenging yet fun at the same time. Final Fight paid homage to many classic movies, musicians, and more from the 80's which gave it a nice vintage feel before it was even cool for wrestlers to run for government offices.

Street Fighter II

Still one of my favorite fighting games of all time, Street Fighter II was a favorite of myself and my friends growing up which is why I'm extra bitter that Japan is getting this game included with their mini SNES but not us; that's a topic for another time though. The fact remains that this game and its successors were some of the highest rated games of the era for good reason.

Harvest Moon

My very first experience with a farming game didn't come from Farmville or any other such game. Instead, it was from this game which taught me just how hard (and downright repetitive) farming could be! In this game you take over a farm and have to do all the things that this entails including harvesting crops, taking care of animals and eventually wooing a member of the opposite sex.

Killer Instinct

This fighting game had some unique twists thrown into it to keep it fresh and unique at a time when it seemed like all anyone could talk about was Mortal Kombat. This game really left a lasting impression on me growing up and I can still remember all the hours I spent trying to memorize the combo breakers.

Super Baseball Simulator 1.000

There were dozens of sports games released on SNES but my all time favorite will always be Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 simply because the ridiculous power ups always made sure that the game you were playing was nothing like a normal baseball game. Filled with insane power-ups for both pitchers and batters, the players were constantly trying to outdo each other with just how much damage they could do to the opposing team.

U.N. Squadron

I remember when this game came out I was absolutely blown away by the graphics and thought that they were absolutely the best thing ever created. While I don't really remember the story of this game all too clearly, I remember the fighting was absolutely intense! The battles that this game put you through were monstrous at times, to say the least.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

The fact that this game is not being included with the mini SNES proves that the world is a dark, meaningless place filled with despair and misery. Ok, maybe I'm overselling it a bit, but it still sucks hard that this game is not being included as it was easily one of the funnest and most original games out there.
