8 Movies Heading For The TV Screen
There are several network studios currently working on bringing quite a few films to mainstream television.
Lately, there has been a push to transition films to the small screen and not in the way they usually appear. The most common way that we get to experience a movie on TV is through a rerun on cable or a streaming service, yet there are several network studios currently working on scripts, pilots & brainstorming sessions to bring quite a few films to mainstream television.
Now with these films, I want to give you all fair warning that just because it's in the list doesn't mean that it's coming anytime soon. A couple of these haven't been heard from even though development has already begun. Regardless of their stage of production or development, here are eight movies in the works to transition to television:
'Shooter'
Film Debut: 2007
TV Debut: Expected 2016
Studio: Paramount Studios on the USA Network
Premise: The movie and show follow the story of Bob Lee Swagger, a Marine Gunnery Sergeant and one of the world's best snipers. Swagger faces off against powerful government agencies that are trying to suppress the truth and kill him in the process.
Starring: Ryan Phillippe, Shantel VanSanten, Omar Epps & Eddie McClintock
'Lethal Weapon'
Film Debut: 1987, 1989, 1992 & 1998
TV Debut: Expected Late 2016
Studio: WB Television on the FOX Network
Premise: The movie and show follows the pairing of slightly unhinged cop, Martin Riggs, and veteran detective, Roger Murtaugh. The pairing of the two cops brings explosive comedy and action into a great blend of entertainment.
Starring: Damon Wayans, Clayne Crawford, Golden Brooks & Jordana Brewster
'Rush Hour'
Film Debut: 1998, 2001, 2007 & 2017+
TV Debut: Exp. Mar 31st, 2016
Studio: WB Television on the CBS Network
Premise: The movie and show follows the unlikely partnership of Detective Carter, a radical LAPD detective, and Detective Lee, a by-the-books detective from Hong Kong. The two come across a variety of situations that call for each of the partners to use their unique skills to solve the case.
Starring: Jon Foo, Justin Hires, Aimee Garcia, Page Kennedy & Jessika Van
'Taken'
Film Debut: 2008, 2012 & 2014
TV Debut: Fall 2016
Studio: Eagle Vision on the NBC Network
Premise: The movie and show will follow the life of Bryan Mills (originally portrayed by Liam Neeson). The show will be a prequel of sorts, and focus on the events that led up to Bryan Mills acquiring his expert set of "...skills that make him a nightmare for people like you."
Starring: Clive Standen & Celeste Desjardins
'Jack Ryan'
Film Debut: 1990, 1992, 1994, 2002 & 2014
TV Debut: In Development (no anticipated release date yet)
Studio: Paramount Studios on Amazon
Premise: Jack Ryan is a character that has appeared in 5 separate films and portrayed by 4 different actors. The show will place another actor in the role, and is not expected to tie directly to any of the previous iterations.
Starring: No announced actors
'Real Genius'
Film Debut: 1985
TV Debut: In Development (no anticipated release date yet)
Studio: Sony TV, Happy Madison on the NBC Network
Premise: The movie follow the antics of a brilliant physics student, Chris Knight ( a senior at Pacific Tech), as he works on a secret laser project for the CIA with his new freshman partner, Mitch Taylor. The show would follow up with the pair in a modern-day workplace setting, with Chris being a hotshot tech genius and Mitch being the naive new co-worker.

'Tremors
Film Debut: 1990, 1996, 2001, 2004 & 2015
TV Debut: 2003 (original series) & 2017 (reboot)
Studio: Universal Cable & Blumhouse on an unannounced network
Premise: The movies are a bit of a cult classic that follows the events in a small Nevada town that is attacked by subterranean monsters galled Graboids. The rebooted show will follow Valentine McKee as he returns to the desert town of Perfection.
Starring: Kevin Bacon
'Westworld'
Film Debut: 1973
TV Debut: 2016
Studio: WB TV & Jerry Weintraub Productions on the HBO Network
Premise: The movie and show are set in a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings. The AI malfunctions and causes havoc across the park and for all the tourists. Both are based on the story written by Michael Crichton.
Starring: Ben Barnes, Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden & Evan Rachel Wood
