One of the best things to come out of the 80s is undeniably John Hughes movies. Whether you are joining a group of diverse individuals in The Breakfast Club, having someone forget your birthday in 16 Candles or skipping school with Bueller in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, his movies were the voice of a generation, and this month marks the 30th anniversary of one of his most popular movies Pretty in Pink. Here are some things you might not have known about the film.

1. They originally wanted Anthony Michael Hall to play Duckie.

However, he had already done four of Hughes' films, and wanted to branch out.

2. James Spader got the role of Stef because he was a jerk.

Allegedly, he walked into the room with a cigarette, put it out on the floor and acted like an all around arrogant jerk. He was also up for the role of Blane but he actually prefers playing the villain.

3. Molly Ringwald would have prefered Robert Downey Jr for the role of Duckie.

She has stated about the performance that Jon Cryer gave:

“Actually, I think [Duckie] seemed gay. I mean, if they remade the movie now, he would be, like, the gay friend who comes out at the end. He wouldn’t be winking at a blonde [Kristy Swanson], he would be winking at a cute guy…I feel bad saying that I really fought for Robert Downey, Jr., because it sort of seems like I don’t appreciate Jon’s performance, which I totally do—it’s just, it really did affect the movie.”

4.There was another famous graduating class from their high school.

The school scenes were shot at the same high school as the movie Grease.

5. Charlie Sheen was up for the role of Blane.

It was actually Molly Ringwald who asked for them to have Andrew McCarthy come in for a reading. She told Hughes that he was the kind of guy she would fall in love with.

6. It has a stars seal of approval.

This is Molly Ringwald's favorite movie that she did with John Hughes.

7. There is a reason that Blane's hair looks so bad at prom.

He had actually lost weight and shaved his head as he had already begun work on another film but had to come back for prom.

8. The ending was actually a reshoot.

Originally, Andie was meant to end up just dancing with Duckie, and Andrew McCarthy on his own looking on. It didn't test well with audiences, with the crowd actually booing, so they went back for the reshoot and we got the infamous ending we have today.
