2017 has been one heck of a seesaw for Aaron Carter. Earlier this year, he addressed concerns over his weight, revealing that he suffers from an epigastric condition known as hiatus hernia. Last month, he publicly came out as bisexual, eliciting mixed reactions online. He’s also been involved in a string of worrying incidents, ranging from a massive car crash, to multiple police visits triggered by severe depression and suicidal behavior. There were also rumors that Carter had tried to purchase a gun and was reportedly threatening family members. Whatever the case might have been, it’s clear the former teen heartthrob isn’t in a very good place at the moment.

It seems he knows it, too. On Saturday, Carter released a series of tweets announcing that he will be taking time off Twitter to work on himself and his overall wellness. He explained that social media has been taking an emotional and mental toll on him. Check out the tweets below, in order of posting:

See you guys later. This social media stuff isn't for me. I'll see you next year I'm taking a break from this shit.

I am strong, that's why I made this decision. No one could've forced me. None of you even know my reasons for this. It's called stress

Space, Peace And Rehab

According to his representative, the singer is scheduled to enter a wellness facility this month to work on his depression, anxiety problems and eating disorder, as well as his recurring substance addiction. He has previously tested positive for hydrocodone, marijuana and certain benzodiazepines, including Xanax. His representative stated:

“He is going to do this privately and focus all his attention on being the best person and performer possible. He is grateful for the support and love from his fans and looks forward to coming back stronger than ever before.”

According to ET, a source close to Carter stated that it had been 100% the singer’s decision to check into the facility, and that he was neither “required nor forced to go.” The source elaborates:

“Ultimately, what led to the decision was that he saw the impact his health was having on his life, both personally and professionally, and he couldn’t pretend these problems weren’t affecting his life.”

Possible Family Issues

Aside from re-prioritizing his health, the 29-year-old crooner also admitted that he and his family are going through a rough patch and are currently not on speaking terms. However, he clarified that this has nothing to do with his decision to lay off of social media and go into rehab, saying:

And FYI. MY FAMILY has nothing to do with this. I've actually had to cut them all off unfortunately and it's gonna stay that way.— Aaron Carter (@aaroncarter) September 23, 2017

Does this mean Carter is currently without familial support? Not quite, according to the source. Apparently his family is completely on board with his decision to go into rehab, as are Carter’s friends and various associates, despite the decision to stay apart.

“Aaron’s decision has been on the table for a little while,” the source verifies. “Various people close to him have been encouraging him. Those closest to Aaron, including his family members, fully support him in this decision.”

Early Christmas Gift Mid-Hiatus

Besides vowing to return much stronger and happier in 2018, #AaronCarter also promised his fans a little something on October 27 — a new, more updated version of his hit song “I Want Candy.” Not only that, he will also be releasing his first single from his upcoming album LØVË four weeks later, just a few days short of New Year’s Eve.

Even when he’s struggling, he still manages to find time to spoil his fans. What a guy.

As of this writing, Carter’s Twitter remains active, but the singer has already dimmed his profile picture, replacing his smile with the visual embodiment of darkness, an action clearly representative of the emotional pain he endures on a regular basis. Anyone that’s been forced to live with a chronic health condition (psychiatric or otherwise) knows the difficulty it puts people through, and if those people are still fighting in spite of the desire to just give up, they should be lauded, not bashed.

Your fans are with you, Aaron, through thick and thin. Just take care of you and don’t worry about anything else. We’ll all still be here when you get back.
