The world was heartbroken on June 9th, when the legendary Adam West, most famous for playing Batman in the classic 1960s TV series and movie, sadly passed away. The so-called Bright Knight's portrayal of Batman was so very different to the character as we know him today; he was no dark and brooding figure, but rather was a champion of justice who loved to SOK! his enemies on the jaw.

Superhero fans all over the world mourned Adam West, and the bat-signal even shone over Los Angeles for a night. Celebrities and fans across the world poured tribute on Ward for his professionalism and grace.

The world's universal assessment was that West was a true gentleman, a hero in character as well as in role. In a strange twist, though, his time as Batman isn't quite over. Before his death, he finished voicing the part of the Bright Knight for an animated movie, Batman vs. Two-Face. BvTF is a sequel to last year's Return of the Caped Crusaders, and has finally become available for pre-order!

Batman Vs. Two-Face

You can now pre-order the sequel on Best Buy, who've listed the release date as October 17th. This animated movie promises to be a modern-day classic, and will reunite Adam West's Batman and Burt Ward's Robin. This time round, though, they're up against a villain who never appeared in the original series; Two-Face, who's played by none other than William Shatner.

Return of the Caped Crusaders was an animated movie that brought joy to fans of the classic '60s series. It lived up to the camp, zany style of the original show, complete with the famous punch special effects, but also took advantage of the unlimited potential of animation. It wasn't perfect, of course; unlike the original, which played the humor straight and was all the funnier for it, Return of the Caped Crusaders was all-too-aware of how absurd it was. What's more, as game as West was, the sad truth is that he sounded his age. That said, he got the best dialogue, and there were so many moments where he outshone all his fellow stars. His ability to reprise the role decades latter was a true testament to this superhero legend's skill.

Although we have a pre-order date, we don't yet know for certain just how DC plans to celebrate Adam West's final outing as the Caped Crusader. The last animated movie had a limited, one-day release at US cinemas (a week later in the UK), but was hardly a hit; most cinemas reported a pretty low turn-out. That said, Batman vs. Two-Face is likely to be very different; I strongly suspect a lot more fans would head out to watch it in honor of the late, great Adam West.

2017 is a strange year, and Adam West is only one of the greats whose final adventure will air after they've sadly passed away. In December, Star Wars fans will be heading to the cinemas to watch The Last Jedi, the second installment in Lucasfilm's Sequel Trilogy, and Carrie Fisher's last outing as General Leia Organa. The last three months of the year look set to be very emotional indeed, and Batman vs. Two-Face will definitely leave fans heartbroken as the Bright Knight's journey comes to a close.
