'Death Parade'

Death Parade is a bit gory, but a cute romance. The main character died and came to this bar-like place. The bartender was supposed to judge if she was going to be reincarnated or sent to the oblivion. The one problem is, he fell in love with her. Chiyuki enters the Quindecim bar to be judged. There is something different about her. She remembers how she died. The people that get judged after death have their memories of dying removed to get a better understanding of who they are. This makes it easier for the arbiters to decide where they go. The arbiter of Quindecim, Decim, is visited by Chiyuki, but the memories are not removed. So Nona, a former arbiter, decides that Chiyuki will help Decim until he decides where she will go. In the series, you learn the Nona had made Decim with human emotions to see if it would improve how the arbiters judge. When Chiyuki died, Nona purposefully left her memories alone. This made it hard for Decim to decide, so Nona gave him time to decide, and in that time, Chiyuki would help him run the Quindecim bar.

Arbiters have four important rules that they have to follow.

  1. Arbiters can not quit making judgements, for that is the reason why they exist.
  2. Arbiters can not experience death, for that would bring them to close to being human
  3. Arbiters can not feel emotion, for they are dummies.
  4. Arbiters may not work hand in hand with life, for that will ruin them.

The last rule was added after what happened with Chiyuki and Decim.

When humans who have died are sent to these bars, they have to play a game. This game is decided by random. These games seem harmless until the people start to play them. As the game proceeds, it gets gruesome. This causes the players to lose their morals. They also gain their memories back as they play as to how they died. At the end of the game, the arbiters decide whether they are reincarnated or sent to oblivion.

Chiyuki is sent to Quindecim after she kills herself. She was an ice skater, but after an accident which caused her to break her leg, she could not skate anymore. This sent her into depression. Decim received the information, but when she showed up, she knew that she was already dead. She then has to stay there until he can decide, but as the story unfolds, Decim starts to have feelings for her. This makes it hard for him to say goodbye in the end. He fell in love with her because he was created with human emotion. Even though that was against the rules, she wanted to test a different way to judge. That made Oculas create more rules to prevent the event from ever happening again.

I would recommend this to everyone. It is a bit gory, but it has a cute love story behind it. The end is a little sad, but happy. I ended up in tears because of this. The end is kind of unclear, but most believe she was sent to the void due to a mannequin of her sitting in a chair next to the bar. This will be one of my favorite animes that I have watched.

Through twelve episodes, you will meet many characters and fall in love with them. There is more to the show than what I have explained. To fully understand, you will have to watch this anime. It can be found on Crunchyroll , Funimation, and Watch Cartoon. It has an english version if you do not like reading and watching.
