Arrow just finished a killer season on May 24th, and fans expected the next season to have a totally different structure than everything that's come before. Specifically, as executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Digital Spy, the creative team had "basically made a collective decision that Season 5 would be the final year of flashbacks."

And the fans weren't the only ones excited about that, as #StephenAmell told Access Hollywood it was a good move for the show:

But not so fast! If you watch the above video, you'll see that Guggenheim confirmed that the first episode of Season 6 will have a flashback ... to Lian Yu:

"The season premiere of Season 6 will have a flashback ... to the island, if you take me literally at my word, yes ... back to the island."

Beyond that, #Arrow will continue to have flashbacks, as Guggenheim told IGN:

"We still want to make that part of our storytelling, because we do like them. We like when those non-island flashbacks sort of illuminate what's going on in the present day. That'll always be a part of the show and a part of the show's storytelling structure. It just won't be telling a serialized story."

Guggenheim added that the flashbacks could focus on other characters now that Oliver's story has been told. He also threw out hints to IGN that he'd like to do flash-forwards as well, especially for John Diggle, played by David Ramsey:

"We would totally do other characters. We might even do a flashforward. You never know! I think it would be fun to do it with Oliver. It might be fun to do it with Diggle."

Flashbacks for the other characters could definitely flesh them out more, as we know little about Curtis's past other than he was an Olympic gymnast. We've also only gotten glimpses at the pasts of the newer characters like Dinah and Rene. There are certainly more to them than the one or two scenes we saw of their lives before joining #TeamArrow.

As long as Oliver is out of the wigs for the most of Season 6, most fans will be happy. What we're looking forward to the most is a kick-ass season that is even better than its predecessor.
