Arrow viewers are so confused. On Monday, April 10th, Stephen Amell tweeted the return of Manu Bennett. Deathstroke fans were thrilled!
But Bennett quickly changed our excitement to confusion with his response to Amell's tweet — feigning surprise:
At first, it seemed like a fun bit of joking around — typical Hollywood banter between actors. But the Deathstroke actor vehemently denied he would be returning to Arrow.
Viewers took to Bennett's social media accounts to ask whether the actor was trolling them, some even demanding a definitive response to the question: is he returning to Arrow or not?
The questions were met with yet another tweet that only heaped more confusion onto fans' plates, as Bennett let them know he was still on set in Auckland, New Zealand, and presumably wouldn't be or couldn't be in Vancouver to film for Arrow:
In spite of the actor's denials, entertainment sites have been reporting Bennett will indeed be appearing as Deathstroke in the Season 5 finale of Arrow. And perhaps for good reason, as Bennett told Digital Spy in March that fans might be happier if they didn't know in advance if Deathstroke returned:
"There's a lot of fans wanting Deathstroke back. If Deathstroke shows up again on Arrow, everyone will be a lot happier if they didn't know [in advance]."
So what's the true story? Is Manu Bennett picking up the Slade Wilson/Deathstroke mantle once more?
Perhaps Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim answers the question best:
So actually, it looks like he will lend his voice to Deathstroke, but another actor may be in the actual costume. I guess that means that, technically, Bennett was telling the truth, but we'll have to wait to see if the voice is all we get of him in the Season 5 finale.
