Cozy Mystery Books to Get You into the Christmas Spirit
One of the ways that I choose to celebrate the various holidays that come throughout the year is by reading a book that centers on that holiday. And one of my favorite book genres is cozy mysteries! Yes, someone dies. Occasionally multiple someones. But the stakes don't seem nearly as high or the atmosphere as sinister as other mysteries or thrillers.

Review: Neil Gaiman's Mr. Hero, the Newmatic Man
As I continued through my search for comic books and graphic novels in the steampunk genre, I was a little surprised to come across a title by Neil Gaiman, or at least one with Neil Gaiman's name in the title. Amazingly, no one had mentioned this one to me before, and I know quite a few fans of both Neil Gaiman and steampunk.

Pad Thai: Noodle is Your Lunch
This article was originally posted at Adventures in Food and Word. I remember very distinctly sitting in a restaurant as a child with my mother and uncle in Lansing, a city with a much broader selection of world cuisine than Kalamazoo. It was a restaurant that my uncle liked for its chicken pad thai, which I had never heard of in my entire (admittedly short) life.

Cuppa
Tea is one of my absolute favorite beverages in the entire history of the world. And it has a lot of history! But that isn't what this poem is about. I wrote this poem to simply sing the praises of this wonderful and richly cultured drink with a poetry and grace all its own.

Ode to a Matcha Latte
Matcha (抹茶) is the Japanese word for green tea, specifically when the tea is made from finely powdered green tea leaves. Matcha is highly caffeinated. To make the tea, the powder is dissolved in hot water. But matcha powder is also used to flavor several food items like cake and ice cream. It is also a popular latte here in the west!

Haiku That Quack and Purr
Several years ago, I moved to an apartment that had a pond out the back with plenty of wildlife - ducks, geese, herons, frogs, and more. My two cats especially loved to watch the ducks. I wrote these haiku about their (and our) interactions. If you enjoy these, be sure to check out my profile for more haiku and other poems!
