The Book Thief
This is the best book EVER!!! I think it's going to be one of my top ten favorite lifetime reads. I'm not a big historical fiction fan. Who would have ever thought I'd fall in love with a book written about Hitler Germany? This is an amazing, powerful book. It's told in a third person, omniscient narration, by DEATH! Yes, Death is the one who tells this heartbreaking tale of one Lisiel Merminger of Himmel Street. Having Death narrate the book gives readers the perfect perspective. Death actually was traumatized by humans. He did his job, but it wasn't an easy one, especially when wars were killing off humans by the thousands. Death also used actual colors to describe his emotions and feelings, a rich addition to the story. It added another layer of understanding.

Book Review: 'Children of Exile'
I've read and enjoyed other books written by M. Haddix; it wasn't too hard to be cohered into picking this one up. Not surprisingly, the writing lured me in, just from the first few pages turned. Set in a place called "Fredtown," the story opens meeting a group of children fostered by parents called "Freds." OK, "Freds" were a strange concept, I already felt a sense of mystery and a desire brewing to know what the heck was going on here. ALL foster parents are called Freds, really? Then, when the town they lived in was called "Fredtown," I thought the whole story was extremely puzzling, maybe even a bit over the top. What is going on here?

AUDIO BOOKS Listening to audiobooks is becoming more popular than ever. What a great way to ease a long commute, combat road rage in rush hour traffic, help household chores breeze by or pass the time on a flight. Listening to books while accomplishing other tasks at the same time even boosts productivity. I'll play an audio book while I'm preparing a family meal or folding laundry. Sure helps these mundane chores feel less harrowing. My primary source for most audio books is my local library. I usually listen to them with the Blue Fire Reader application or the Overdrive Media application on my iPhone. What's even slicker is listeners can download audio books from local libraries and borrow them for up to 21 days.
