All hope isn't lost as the Earth's Mightiest Heroes prepare for their rematch against the all-powerful and badass Titan survivor, Thanos (Josh Brolin). In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos's goal was to gather all six infinity stones and wipe out half the world, restoring balance in the universe. Although Thanos succeeded in gathering all six stones, he made a major sacrifice with the murder of his favorite daughter Gamora, also known as the fiercest woman in the galaxy. Having Josh Brolin in the role of Thanos is one of the best casting made in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, other than Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Are we really gonna count Loki as a villain? He did sacrifice himself to save Thor. Hmm, is he really dead? After all, he is the God of Mischief. In regards to Thanos, the snap caused major damage to the universe with the deaths of many heroes and allies, with the most heartbreaking being Spider-Man's. I didn't want you to go either, Tom. As we wait for the next chapter to end it all, who do you think will undo the damage done by Thanos? My money is on the man that started it all. 👇

Robert Downey, Jr. stars in Avengers: Infinity War.

Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) has been the powerhouse and leading man of the MCU since his debut in 2008's Iron Man. During the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Tony Stark left Earth on a suicide mission with Doctor Strange and Spider-Man to, as Stark said, "take the fight to him" (Thanos). Doctor Strange reluctantly agrees, but he informs Stark that if he has to choose between them or the time stone, he wouldn't hesitate to let them both die. That's strange, pun intended, considering after Thanos injured Stark and is just seconds away from killing him, Doctor Strange TRADES the time stone for Tony Stark's life. Why would Doctor Strange do the opposite of what he said earlier in the movie? It definitely has something to do with Doctor Strange looking forward in time at all the alternate futures. According to Strange, there are 14 million 605 possibilities and the Avengers, teamed with the Guardians of the Galaxy, only won one.

With the original Avengers still alive and joined by War Machine, Rocket Raccoon, and Nebula, it is certainly a guarantee that Tony Stark will play a major role in bringing all of the dead characters back to life in the untitled Avengers sequel. Maybe he and Shuri will put their heads together and create a separate gauntlet or gadgets and gain access into the quantum realm to travel through time and retrieve the stones before Thanos finds out what they're up to.

Knowing that the untitled Avengers sequel, fingers crossed that the Russo Brother's will title it Avengers: End Game, will be just as heartbreaking as Infinity War, we already know that with new characters making their big screen debuts to take over the MCU, some old characters have to bite the dust first. So, who will it be?

Chris Evans co-stars in Avengers: Infinity War.

Steve Rogers

Chris Evans has undoubtedly done a remarkable job as the super soldier turned war criminal Captain America. With his contract ending with the release of the Avengers sequel, it is highly likely that Captain America will die at the hands of Thanos. If you're a big fan of the MCU like I am, then you'd know that Marvel loves planting seeds or giving off hints as to what's to come. Steve met Thanos at the end of Infinity War and after a few seconds fight, one punch from Thanos knocked him out cold. That was a nod to the Captain America versus Thanos fight in the comics, which we'll likely see more of in the sequel. I believe Thanos will hurt Cap pretty bad and kill him in their fight. From set news, a funeral scene was filmed. We know they originally shot both films back-to back. Since we didn't get the funeral scene in Infinity War, we could get it in the sequel. What if it's Tony Stark in the coffin? I mean, they did announce the return of Ty Simpkins' Harley Keener from Iron Man 3. What if Keener is there to say goodbye to an old friend?

Thor

Another character whose death was alluded to is the God of Thunder himself: Thor. Thor is a character that is fueled by rage and pain. After losing everything and everyone, he sets off on a mission with Rocket Raccoon and Groot to Nidavellir to forge the Stormbreaker, a powerful axe Thor plans to use to kill Thanos. Taking the power of a star, Thor could have died had it not been for Groot creating a handle for Stormbreaker to restore Thor's health and heal his burns. As Thor would say: "Thanks, Tree." 😂

Australian-born actor Chris Hemsworth, like Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr., is contractually done with the MCU with the release of the untitled Avengers sequel. When promoting his film 12 Strong, Chris Hemsworth had this to say about Thor after the upcoming Avengers sequel. “Contractually, right now, yeah, this is it. I’m done. I won’t be playing the character again. This really seemed like this never-ending thing. And now it’s potentially finishing.” From the sound of that, we could either see Thor meet his end in the sequel or him moving on completely. Either way, he, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey, Jr. will bid farewell to the MCU in 2019.

The untitled Avengers sequel opens in theaters worldwide on May 3, 2019. Directed by the Russo brothers, this movie will wrap up everything we know and love about the MCU since 2008's Iron Man. Soon to be an 11-year journey, I suggest everyone take some Kleenex to the theater with you when you go see this movie because it's going to get pretty emotional. Also, go with a friend. Maybe you both can cry on each other's shoulders. I know I will.
