The Five Moments I'm Most Looking Forward to

In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe set us out on a journey following Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and in fifteen days that journey comes to an end. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for the premier of Avengers: Endgame. So I figured, what better way to add to my excitement than by listing things I am most looking forward too in this last chapter. So, without further ado (although the waiting only makes the payoff better) here are the top five things I’m excited to see in Avengers: Endgame. Just a warning because I know a lot of people try to avoid the trailers, this will have trailer spoilers. So, if you want to go into this movie completely blind, PLEASE STOP READING NOW.

5. The Reunion Between Black Widow and Hawkeye

Black Widow and Hawkeye, otherwise known as Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton respectively, have been central characters since the very first chapter of the MCU. They have been featured in a variety of MCU movies, collectively appearing in twelve movies and appearing together in three (The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War). Their friendship has been well established as they have laughed, fought, and scowled their way through the MCU. Natasha helped Clint during The Avengers when he was under the control of the Mind Stone. In MCU lore, S.H.I.E.L.D. ordered Clint to kill Natasha, but he made a game time decision and saved her life. The fought each other during Captain America: Civil War, but even then their friendship shined through as they made jokes during the famous airport scene. Unfortunately for Hawkeye fans, Clint wasn’t present during the Thanos fight and thus his super powered arrows couldn’t help the Avengers fight off the mad titan. But the trailers show that Clint survived "the snappening", even if half of his hair didn’t (go check out Hawkeye’s new, interesting haircut if you are confused). The trailers also show what is presumably the reunion of Natasha and Clint, both looking heartbroken, yet determined. These former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents turned Avengers will be back together in Endgame. Although their powers probably won’t be a great service in the fight against Thanos, it will be great to see their friendship on screen once again.

4. The Return of the Hulk

Our favorite big green monster had some performance anxiety in Avengers: Infinity War. He got his angry ass handed to him by Thanos while on the Asgardian spaceship and after that Hulk retreated into his little shell and refused to come out, much to the chagrin of Bruce Banner and the rest of the Avengers. Although it is unlikely that the Hulk would’ve changed the course of the last movie, it was sad seeing so little of the mindless green manic that we have come to know and love. The trailers for Endgame don’t show the Hulk, but I think it is safe to assume that he will make a late-game appearance in the final movie. I’ll be on the edge of my seat waiting for that to happen. Maybe he will team up with Thor and Captain Marvel to take on Thanos; a classic our-three-versus-you heavyweight bout. Maybe he will absolutely decimate a mindless army of disposable bad guys a-la the original Avengers. Or maybe he and Bruce will simply have a conversation about their incredibly confusing relationship. Who knows? Regardless of the Hulk’s role in Endgame it will be nice to see him in action once again.

3. Ant-Man Escaping from the Quantum Realm

The last time we saw the loveable Scott Lang on the big screen, he was floating uselessly in the Quantum Realm after the disappearance of the Pym family due to the snap. We know from the trailers that Scott figures out a way to escape the Quantum Realm and we know that he goes looking for the Avengers. This raises a very important question: How does Ant-Man escape from the inescapable Quantum Realm? This moment will be exciting because the answer will most likely shed light onto how the Avengers are going to reverse the snap and bring all the dusted heroes (and half of all life in the universe) back to reality. I’m also anticipating this moment for a different reason—namely, how is Scott going to react to "the snappening" and who has he lost? We, as an audience, know that the entire Pym family, including his love interest and fellow hero Hope Van Dyne, disappeared. But the more pressing issue is, the whereabouts of his lovable and hilarious daughter, Cassie. She has been the moral cornerstone for Lang’s character and also has become a fan favorite. It would be heartbreaking to see that she was lost in the snap, but would also represent a driving force for Scott to join the fight against Thanos. Regardless of Cassie’s whereabouts, Scott’s journey from the Quantum Realm to the real world is sure to be of great importance in Avengers: Endgame.

2. The Relationship Between Captain Marvel and Thor

When Thor had his climatic arrival in Wakanda, I got chills. I hardly ever cheer for movies in theatres, but that moment had me clapping for a guy who, in two movies, had become my favorite Avenger. Since battling the goddess of death and receiving Stormbreaker, the axe built to replace his old hammer, Thor has proven himself to be the strongest of the original Avengers. Had he aimed one foot higher, Thor would’ve killed Thanos and prevented the mad titan from fulfilling the mad quest that drove Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, Thor didn’t go for the head and Thanos wiped out half the galaxy. Fortunately, that action will bring the God of Thunder in contact with another badass: Captain Marvel. Since her movie dropped in March, Carol Danvers has become a centerpiece of conversation. She is super powerful thanks to a run in with an energy core powered by the Tesseract (aka the Space Stone). Captain Marvel is a wonder—her powers are amazing and yet, somehow, we still don’t know the full extent of them. It’s safe to say that she rivals Thor on the Avengers power spectrum and probably safe to assume that she will be instrumental in the Thanos v. Avengers bout round two. The trailers show Danvers returning to Earth after receiving a call from a pager she gave to Nick Fury in Captain Marvel. There is also a scene where Thor calls for Stormbreaker right next to the head of Danvers. He then smiles and says, “I like her.” This relationship between two of the most high-powered superheroes in the MCU will be amazing to see on the big screen. I’m excited to see how their powers are used together and how the stoic, yet funny, Thor interacts with the bold and sarcastic Danvers. Throw some well-rested Hulk in the mix and Thanos might have more heroes then he bargained for.

1. Iron Man’s Reunion with Captain America

Could anything else be number one? These two characters have driven the MCU for over ten years and their friendship has been a major overarching plot point for so many movies. This relationship all starts in The Avengers. After Cap tells Tony that he would never be the one to make the sacrifice play, Iron Man heroically flies a nuclear weapon into a portal, apparently giving up his life to save New York City. From that point on, a mutual respect and friendship is born. Their relationship isn’t perfect, and they constantly question the decisions of the other person, but between the two, they are able to lead a team of highly powered super heroes and become Earth’s mightiest heroes. This all falls apart in the climatic battle at the end of Captain America: Civil War. After discovering that Bucky, a lifelong friend of Steve Rogers, killed his parents, Tony Stark tries to kill the Winter Soldier. After a grueling five minutes of screen time battle, Cap gets the upper hand and raises his shield to defeat Iron Man. Tony throws up his hands, shielding his face, fearing for his life. Steve slams the shield down, but not into Tony’s face. He would never have taken Iron Man’s life. Instead, Cap slams the shield into the Iron Man’s chest core, destroying the suit and ending their friendship. The two shared approximately zero minutes of screen time during Avengers: Infinity War, but referenced each other a few times. Tony mentions that Steve could help them after a spaceship arrives over New York City. Steve says that Earth lost its greatest defender after Tony disappeared into space. But fans never got that long awaited reunion between two of the greatest heroes in the MCU. That will change in Avengers: Endgame. The trailers show that Iron Man and Captain America meet back up and exchange handshakes as they work to take down Thanos. I anticipate that this moment will be much more epic than what the trailers show and I expect that their reunion could be another chill-inspiring scene, such as Thor’s arrival in Wakanda. I also think the movie could have another heart wrenching Tony-Steve moment; the death of Captain America or Iron Man. The character arc (along with the actors contracts) point to Endgame being the final installment for these pillars of the MCU. It makes sense that one of them will meet their match in Endgame. If that happens, you can bet that the other will be heartbroken at the loss of a good friend.

Avengers: Endgame comes out in fifteen days. I hope the anticipation isn’t too much for you.
