Our Second Chance to Get Some New Hints as to What Marvel’s Heroes Will Be up to on Their next Adventure

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes just got even more badass!

Wow. Just wow. I love a good trailer, but this takes the cake for excitement. Marvel have got us truly in the dark about the plotline of the film; yes we have the hint here and there but not enough to guess what will happen... WHICH IS GOOD! I’M LOOKING AT YOU, DC!

So, let’s get to picking it apart.

Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? Is it a Failing Franchise?’

What’s interesting, guys?

The beginning of the trailer gives us an off-screen monologue from Gamora, telling us about since being taken in by Thanos as a child she has known his plan: to eradicate half of the universe. A lovely tie in to Thanos’ motivations in the comics.

During the monologue we get a pitter patter of images, including the one above. Black Widow, Banner, and War Machine (assumingly in Wakanda) are looking up at something. Judging that the last trailer showed Banner in these same clothes stood next to a beaten up Hulk Buster armour (which we are all beginning to believe he wears for the fight in Wakanda), we can assume the big fight has been, and now something else is coming. Could it be a giant, circular device like the one seen in the first trailer? Maybe each major city on Earth is hit by one for some reason? Or could this be the moment everyone regroups for the finale?

Make a wish.

INCOMING!!!

Something falling to Earth, and not too far from Dr. Stephen Strange’s New York Sanctum? I think we all know what this could be.

The first trailer shows a near-naked, confused banner in a crator of his own doing, slap bang in the middle of the Sanctum Sanctorum, with Strange and Wong stood over him ready to defend themselves from the unknown.

Looks like this shot is mere moments before Banner drops in unannounced.

You’re up, Kid.

Spidey springs into action.

Following on from the last trailer, with Peter Parker on a school bus, his spider-sense tingling and then him noticing the large, rotating device above New York... it looks like this is his next step.

The new trailer gives us a cool shot of Tom Holland’s wall crawler hanging out of the side of the bus as he puts his mask on, then jumping off a bridge and swinging/skidding across water on his way to save the day.

FAVOURITE TRAILER MOMENT THUS FAR!

Up, Up and Away in Style!

Stark’s done some upgrades.

During an off-screen inspirational speech about the team’s advantage over Thanos from Tony Stark, we get to see one of his new toys.

As Stark is flying up to something (possibly a jump ship belonging to Thanos?) his legs merge into one rocket as he advances faster and faster upwards. Looks like he is really upping his game for another Alien invasion.

Truth is in The Eye of The Beholder... or Sorcerer.

Strange is meddling with time again.

A surprising moment. Here we are seeing Strange open The Eye of Agamotto. The question is, is he using it? Or is he giving it up?

As known from a quick line in the Doctor Strange film, The Eye is an Infinity Stone—The Time Stone to be precise.

Now if he is using it, surely it is not to pull an "all is lost, let’s turn back time like it never happened" cop out, and it definitely won’t be a "Thanos, I’ve come to bargain" moment, which was a one hit wonder for the Strange movie. The Russo Brothers wouldn’t be so stupid. If he is using it, then maybe it’s to demonstrate his power to the team? Or to frighten whoever they are against?

As for whether Strange is giving it up, well we’ll get to that later. (Oh yeah, feeling the suspense yet?).

Joining Forces

Cap returns to Wakanda.

A nice moment in the trailer. We see Cap and his renegade Avengers returning to Wakanda, being welcomed by King T’Challa. An average moment you might say, but look in he background, and also think about the first shot of the trailer that I discussed; Banner and War Machine are there. Now last time I checked, Rhodey was Team Iron Man. In the last trailer, Banner landed on Earth at Strange’s feet and seemingly was greeted by Tony Stark not long after. Why would they be alligned with Steve Rogers all of a sudden? Rhodey pretty much lost the use of his legs because of the events in Civil War!

Banner being there can partially be explained; apparently Banner and Stark will not see eye to eye when he returns to Earth. Reports say that after Banner’s eye opening experiences in Thor: Ragnarok, and not understanding why the events of Civil War had to come about, he will have more of a backbone than usual and actually disagree with his Science Bro on some things. Who is to say Banner doesn’t split off from his iron-clad friend and somehow contacts the other side to help them out?

But still... War Machine. My only guess is that when Tony goess off planet (which this trailer all but confirms), Rhodey doesn’t see himself and Strange as the best line of defence, and so unwillingly alligns with the other set of heroes. Time for an awkward "hi" moment with Falcon:

Falcon: "Sorry about the whole, yanno, paralyzing thing."

Rhodey: "No, we cool, we cool."

Falcon: "Vision’s fault really. I got a good duck and weave."

Rhodey: "Just stop talking."

Falcon: "... Think we’ll EVER get a solo movie?"

Rhodey: "Shut up."

‘... Wow.'

Leader’s gonna clash.

Tony Stark’s "wow" is definitely on two levels. "Wow" at Peter Quill’s blunt rejection of whatever plan he had just whipped up, and "wow" as in us fans thinking "wow, I’m so excited to watch these two characters interact."

From the moment it was confirmed they would be in this film together, I myself, like every other fan of the franchise, knew this would be magic to watch.

Star-Lord and Iron Man are both leaders of their teams. So when you put them together, imagine the dick-measuring they’re going to be doing! The wit and the fact even Stark is stuck for words, a rare occasion, just shows how much fun they’ll be.

This clip features Quill, Stark, Spidey and Drax formulating a plan, maybe on Thanos’ homeworld of Titan. We see later in the trailer that Strange uses some of his sorcery tricks to help Star-Lord in a battle, seemingly in the same setting, so it begs the question of why and when he’ll jump team. Maybe whilst on Earth, Tony gives him a "if your phone beeps, we need you on Titan" kind of thing, for in case they’re ransacked by Aliens or chiselled comedy actors with equally cool facial hair.

Return of The Hulkbuster

Who is inside?

Yes, it’s the return of The Hulkbuster, the stand out of Age of Ultron in my opinion.

Like I said earlier, Banner will be in Wakanda and seen at one point next to the armour. So with Tony not in Wakanda (as far as we know) during the film, the only person we think he’d trust enough with it, who has no military experience and would need such a suit of protection if he’s not hulking out, is Banner.

How we does in the suit though? We’ll see.

The Lord of Thunder... I mean God.

Thor’s not holding back.

This section of the trailer shows Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Thor in some kind of Alien warehouse, or under-belly of a spaceship.

As to why Thor is letting loose on it, we can only theorise that maybe he’s trying to power it up for some reason. It would only take a quick "this place would need the power of an electrical storm to have enough juice to work, otherwise it’s nothing but a bit of old crud" from Rocket, and BOOM! The king of Asgard powers it up.

Young Gamora

Flashbacks are coming.

Unexpected, but I like it. This snippet of the trailer shows us a small, green child’s hand taking Thanos’ hand (or finger we should say, due to size ratio).

To look at a moment like this, the moment The Mad Titan took a defenceless child into his family after slaughtering hers, could this potentially show a soft spot to Thanos? Could it show Gamora to be the true weakness of Thanos? Could it be a fake out? Or a double Fake out?

It’s hard to imagine Thanos being a villain we sympathise with, but we’ll see what The Russo Bros. have in store for us.

Ouch.

Thor’s in trouble.

I won’t lie. With everything else that is being flung around in terms of this film, I completely forgot the idea of Thor meeting Thanos in the flesh.

It confused me as to when this head crushing could take place, but then we remember Thor: Ragnarok’s post-credits scene, which features Loki and Thor looking on as Thanos’ ship encounters theirs.

Could this take place when Thanos invades the Asgardian ship? Maybe instead of killing Thor, he flings him into space which is how he lands in the midst of The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Loki at his Finest

Has Loki turned villain AGAIN?

This is where everyone should feel disappointed. Loki painted himself as a changed man in Thor: Ragnarok. It finally looked like he was going to stay put at his adopted brother’s side. Well, potentially, we were all wrong.

Seemingly, this takes place on the now destroyed Asgardian ship, possibly just after Thor has taken a nose dive into space. All we see is Thanos’ Black Order and Loki. Moments after this, Thanos is in front of the them, crushing The Tesseract in his hand before presumably placing it in the Infinity Gauntlet.

In other footage, we have seen Loki raising The Tesseract into the air to hand it to someone considerably taller than himself. At first, everyone thought it was Thanos, then after the events of Ragnarok, we thought Hulk (explaining his travels to Earth), and now, we’re back to Thanos.

There’s no saying he still didn’t send Hulk back to Earth via the Blue Infinity Stone. Maybe he did it before Thanos and The Black Order stepped on board, but we now know for sure that Loki actually gives it to Thanos.

My gut instinct says he isn’t doing it willingly, and sees it as a way to save his own skin (which from his lack of appearances in any other material linked to the film, won’t), but with Loki, you can never truly tell.

Something Strange is happening.

Stephen’s sling ring won’t help him here.

At first glance, I genuinely thought this was Dr. Strange being webbed up by Spidey, showing maybe the niave hero was been mind controlled. On the contrary, the next moment of the trailer says otherwise. We are shown Ebony Maw, watching on as Strange appears to have shards of glass dug into him as he screams in pain.

But, I think there’s more to it. Ebony Maw is seemingly putting his finger to his lips as if to shush him, or, maybe, to signify "don’t tell anyone."

For anyone who isn’t so familiar with the comics, Ebony Maw has the ability to manipulate and control minds, without the individual even knowing. That glass has an odd sort of glow emitting from it doesn’t it?

What if this scene is showing Ebony Maw setting up Strange’s mind to be controlled. This relates back to my earlier point about Strange using or giving up The Eye of Agamotto. What if he is willingly opening it to give it to Thanos?

The mind boggles.

R.I.P. Hulkbuster

Someone needs help.

The Hulkbuster seems to be taking a beating here as (surely) Thanos’ goons wreak havoc on Wakanda.

Seeing this adds weight to the idea of Banner being in the suit. He has no real strategic or battle training.

My only hope is that we get an amazing moment of The Hulk suddenly bursting out of the suit and taking every single one of the creatures down.

Tony’s not happy.

Who pissed this guy off?

Presumably on Titan, Tony Stark looks worse for wear without his helmet and some of his suit not on. There have been reports that Stark will take a leaf out of T’Challa’s book and have his suit grow around him at his will. At this stage, it is hard to tell if he is in the process of putting the suit on/off, or if the suit has been damaged in battle.

Still, the question remains as to why Tony looks almost as if... oh, I dunno... a friend has died on his watch.

From other footage, we’ve seen Thanos perform the mightiest of choke slams on young Peter Parker whilst in his Iron Spider costume, and we’ve seen him deliver the biggest knuckle sandwich (I’m a 90s kid, forgive the stale metaphors) to Iron Man. Is it too far-fetched to believe this is the moment Stark has lost someone on his watch, right in front of his eyes?

Cap’s Turn

Who is struggling?

Is there ANYONE Thanos doesn’t interact with in this film? From Asgardian ship, to Titan, to Wakanda. This guy really gets use out of his day-pass.

Here, Grizzly Adams-looking Steve Rogers stops a punch from Thanos. Not an easy feat. From looking at both Rogers and Thanos in the clip, they both struggle to out-push the other. As this is the final moment before the film’s title dissolves into shot, is this symbolizing that this film will end with neither side winning? Making way for a final showdown in Avengers 4? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

On the matter of Thanos being in Wakanda, the only explanation can be Vision. The trailer does show Scarlet Witch and Vision in green terrain, so Wakanda isn’t too far a field to guess. Why are they there? To find protection from The Mind Stone being tipped from Vision’s head. This collectively explains the battle in Wakanda, and Thanos’ presense there.

‘Oh, So We’re Using Our Superhero Names...’

Good old, Pedro.

For the final moments of the trailer, who else can be trusted to shed light on such a dark trailer. Yep. Our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man himself, through a funny exchange with Doctor Strange as they first meet. But it's followed by some cool shots of Spidey jumping into action.

On the whole, there isn’t much to say. Amazing trailer. I'm excited for the film to be released. Marvel very rarely lets down their audience, but with this many characters fighting for screen time? What do you think?

Please remember to share my post if possible! Thank you for reading!
