In 1988 the movie Beetlejuice took us by storm, with Michael Keaton playing the titular character of the mischievous ghost that likes to cause chaos under the guise of helping others sort out their troubles by supernatural means.

It's been nearly 30 years since the original came out, but it looks as though we may finally be getting our sequel. Beetlejuice 2 is slated to start filming by the end of 2015. The story will take place 30 years after the original story, and that is about all that is known on the story at the moment.

The script is being worked on by Seth Graham-Smith and confirmed to entertainment weekly that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder were going to be returning in their roles as Betelgeuse (pronounced, of course, as Beetlejuice) and Lydia.

Winona has always been interested in reprising her role as Lydia, speaking about the idea and her excitement for it back in late 2013

I'm kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sounds like it might be happening [....] I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later...That's one of those movies where little kids stop me. I'm so associated with it. I think it gave me my career. I was such a weird looking kid

With that being said, there is no doubt in my mind that she would be the first to sign on the dotted line for taking over her role again.

Though there is no official plot yet, Graham-Smith promises that this movie will be as amazing as it's predecessor.

I think we landed on the right idea, the right approach. It's just now making sure that-for me- I don't want to shit my pants in from t of the entire world making a sequel to one of my favorite movies.

Burton also talked about the idea of a sequel last December, and his excitement for it, to IGN

I think there is now a better chance than ever. I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever.

There is no word on whether or not Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, or Catherine O'Hara will be reprising their roles from the original movie, but whatever the end result is, if Keaton and Ryder return it is sure to be a hit. Hope full this time Betelgeuse will get more than 15 minutes of screentime, after all he is why many of us will be watching.

It's time for Betelgeuse to return to the screen

Beetlejuice... Beetlejuice...
