This Black Widow cosplay guide will teach anyone, cosplay novice or long-time expert, all of the steps necessary to look like the iconic Marvel character Black Widow. Black Widow, or Natalia “Natasha” Romanova, is a female character who is an expert spy and assassin. Starting out as a spy for the KGB, she started to train as an assassin when she was young. After years of ruthless assassination, she earned the nickname Black Widow for her deadliness.

Natalia is a force to be reckoned with. Starting out as a rival to the Avengers, she switched teams after realizing the potential of her powers to be used for good. After becoming an ally to the Avengers and helping them on critical missions, she soon was put in charge by Captain America.

Her character has been featured in many box office films such as The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and many other comics and books as well.

As seen in various depictions of the character, there are a few essential pieces needed to cosplay as the Black Widow such as black bodysuit, red hair, a Black Widow symbol, tactical belt, fingerless black gloves, “widow’s bites,” glocks, and tactical heel boots. Below, we go over each piece of her costume and the material needed to replicate it it.

Since hair is not necessarily the most important aspect of this piece, any basic red wig or even simply dying one’s own hair will work for this project. Depending on the context, Black Widow can be seen with long hair or shorter hair, so go with whatever fits your personal style.

As you may have noticed, Black Widow wears a stretchable all-black garment that covers her entire body. This material can be spandex but preferably should be vinyl so that it is reflective like her costumes are in the films. This is an essential piece to the Black Widow cosplay guide because it makes up the bulk of the costume.

The Black Widow symbol is, of course, featured at the center of the Black Widow costume. For the purposes of Black Widow cosplay, this symbol can be created with foam, construction paper, or plastic using the colors red, black, and yellow. This symbol can be pasted onto the costume directly, or attached to a spare belt. Construction of this logo is important because this is essentially the branding of her character.

The tactical belt is worn under the Black Widow symbol. The tactical belt is where Black Widow keeps most of her tactical militia based technology.

This is an important piece of the costume. Most fake pistols need to be painted black to look more realistic however, so if you're getting something colorful be sure to stock up on some paint as well. These fake pistols will be placed in each of the thigh gun holsters (see below). Fake pistols can be purchased at virtually any children’s toy store.

One gun holster is worn on each thigh. The purpose they serve, as mentioned before, is to hold each of the two guns.

As seen above, many of the Black Widow's costumes feature a strip of bullets worn as a bracelet around each wrist. This can be replicated by using a fake bullet strip, cutting the material, and creating the form of a bracelet.

Black Widow has on black fingerless gloves in almost every costume she wears, making these a simple yet essential piece to any Black Widow cosplay guide.

This is the final piece needed for the construction of this costume. This ties together the military spy look that Black Widow possesses.

When assembled together, this Black Widow cosplay guide will have you ready to face the enemies of the Avengers in no time.
