Jason Bourne returns, and he looks better than ever! At least that's the way it looks to me after seeing the most recent 30 second TV spot on Twitter this morning, check it out below.

So it kicks off right away with Nicky (Julia Stiles) telling Jason that:

It started again, a new program 'Iron Hand', it's even worse than before.

I've got to admit that when it comes to Jason Bourne, I'm about the biggest fanboy out there. From the very beginning, back in 2002, I fell in love with the amnesiac assassin, and I've been hooked ever since. So when rumors began circulating that Matt Damon would return for a 4th movie (5th in the franchise) I've got to admit that I was a bit beside myself with excitement. But there are a few questions that pop up after scanning through the few trailers and featurettes out there.

Where has Jason been?

Coming into this new movie, we meet Jason in a dark place. A place where he has been off the grid for so long, but he's still trying to deal with the demons of his past. He's dealing with these demons by basically pummeling other men into the ground. It's an interesting direction to take Jason, as through the previous films he's always been looking for peace and an escape from the action. He just wanted to find a place where he belongs. Even though he's been off the grid for so long, it doesn't seem to have taken a toll on him, and he remains the perfect weapon.

What is Iron Hand?

It seems like the America government just hasn't quite figured out that creating a perfect weapon isn't that easy. After several beta programs failed to duplicate what Jason Bourne was able to achieve, you'd think that they'd try a different approach; so it's interesting to hear of a new program rising called Iron Hand, but what is it?

The best guess is that it's an enhanced beta program, similar to the past failed programs (Emerald Lake, Treadstone, Blackbriar, Outcome and LARX). The past beta-Programs fucused on enhancing their operatives in unique ways.

  • Emerald Lake focused on a behavioral and physiological modifications.
  • Treadstone utilized behavior-modification to remove morality.
  • Blackbriar enhanced the Treadstone training.
  • Outcome altered chromosomes to give better recovery, strength, intelligence.
  • LARX returned to Treadstone type training but emphasized mental conditioning.

The Iron Hand will most likely be a sort of amalgam of sorts in an attempt to truly create the perfect assassin.
