Bros Before Thrones: 'Game Of Thrones' Stars Discuss That Big Meeting

Will any singular Game of Thrones scene ever top the eventual meeting of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen?

Over the past seven seasons of Game of Thrones, there have been some truly spectacular pairings. From Arya and the Hound to Brienne and Tormund, Tyrion and Jorah to Varys and Littlefinger, the show is known for its bromances and romances. However, will any singular scene ever top the eventual meeting of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen?

Hot off the press at Dragonstone, it was a case of "When Jon Met Dany" in the third episode of Season 7. "The Queen's Justice" gave us all what we've been waiting for, but as with all things on Thrones, the road to the Iron Throne is never smooth!

There's snow place like Dragonstone.

Tensions were running high at Dragonstone when Jon Snow came ashore for a long-awaited reunion with Tyrion Lannister. However, while these two outcasts shared some frivolity, it wasn't quite so much fun in Stannis Baratheon's former throne room between Jon and Daenerys. The two formidable leaders locked horns and Snow dutifully reminded Dany that the last Starks to meet with a Targaryen found themselves as a pre-Shireen Baratheon bonfire party.

You can't blame the two sides for being at odds with each other, but with some 21 years since #GeorgeRRMartin put pen to paper, "The Queen's Justice" gave us a meeting two decades in the making. Speaking to EW, the stars of the "Ice and Fire" saga spoke about the alliance of the century and what it could mean moving forward. Showrunner David Benioff said that he was just as excited about the meeting as we were:

“It was really fun to watch that scene and I thought they did a great job. There isn’t instant chemistry. He’s annoying and she’s annoying and they have to figure out how to make peace.”

While filling out a passport form for Daenerys must be a bit of a bugger — Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms — Jon Snow's "he's the King in the North" seemed a bit underwhelming. Of course, Jon came across as the crackpot northerner spouting crap about the Night King and armies of the undead. Along with refusing the bend the knee, it is safe to say that the fiery Targaryen wasn't exactly swooning over Snow. Emilia Clarke also said that it takes more than some rippling pecs and a ponytail to impress her these days (sorry Drogo):

“I had an idea it was coming this season, sure. It was fun to play — she doesn’t like him and she doesn’t believe him.”

A Frosty Reception

However, things looked to be a little more amicable on Dragonstone by the time we reached the episode's shocking climax, so could Harington see cupid drawing back his bow before the season is out? Forget Brimund or even Euron's "The Silence," Jonerys is our new favorite ship on the high seas of hope. Here's what Kit had to say on the matter:

“I predicted, like everyone, they would meet this season, but I don’t think I predicted it quite as quickly. But then again, you’ve got to take yourself out of the mindset of the viewer. As far as Jon knows, he’s just meeting this queen he’s heard of and trying to negotiate with her — he’s not meeting Daenerys, who the audience has been watching for so many years. That helps with the surprise of it. He walks into the room and doesn’t expect to see such a beautiful young woman of similar age to him. Any young man’s reaction is going to be, ‘Okay…’ but he puts that aside, because he has to.”

While it may all be drink and dragonglass at the moment, Harington shared a story from the set about a particularly hair-raising experience that would make even Jon's man bun stand on end. The anecdote comes from the scene in which Jon and Tyrion muse about life atop the cliffs of Dragonstone:

“It was a beautiful location with 50 mph winds and I was wearing a cape next to a cliff. There was a danger of me being blown off! I’m not sure it’s the way I would have wanted to go.”

Well, as Edna Mode would remind us all, "NO CAPES!" As #GameofThrones prepares to reach the halfway point of its achingly short Season 7 — and as the dead march toward us — here's hoping that Jon and Daenerys can share a bond that is stronger than Valyrian steel and unite the Seven Kingdoms to take down those abominable snowmen.
