'Charmed' Reboot Review - Episode 1

We all loved 'Charmed' back then, but what about the reboot?

This episode starts out with a mother and her two daughters: Mel, who is a lesbian that thinks she knows it all, and Maggie, the sister going to college and trying to fit in. Later that night, the daughters left to do what normal teenagers do: have fun. But back at home, the mother knew something was wrong. She ran to the legendary, but thin Book Of Shadows. She starts by making a potion to bind her daughters' powers. Sounds like a Grams we know right? Before she could finish with the potion and spell something attacked her, causing her to fall out the window and die.

After the loss of their mother, the girls got distant with each other. One night there was a knock on their door in the middle of Mel and Maggie arguing. Maggie, the youngest, opened the door revealing a girl named Macy, a scientist claiming to be their sister. Mel doesn't believe that Macy is her sister even after she has seen the picture of her mother holding Macy as a little girl because she doesn’t want to believe that her mother had another kid out in the world somewhere and not tell her since Mel was always the closest with their mother. However, Maggie was excited to learn that she had another sister and welcomed Macy with open arms.

Later that night, the girls were out and about separately. Mel, with her same gender lover, was at a coffee shop when she noticed that she could freeze things. Macy, being the oldest of the three, was at the bar with her ex when her bottle flew out her hand in the midst of her telling him how she felt about meeting her sisters for the first time. Maggie, being in college and trying to get into a sorority could read everyone's mind. Not being able to handle all the voices in her head she left, but when she walked out the door she had gotten snatched away.

With new powers the three sisters woke up, each tied to their own individual chairs. Not knowing what was going on, a voice spoke revealing their whitelighter, Harry. He goes to explain to the girls that they are the Charmed Ones and that the life of innocents are in their hands if they choose to fully take on their powers. Maggie, just wanting to have fun declined the offer as Macy didn't believe in magic and swore it had something to do with science. Mel, being the only one excited about the opportunity, tried to get her sisters to see the bright side but Maggie had other plans as she left going back to the sorority.

With her sisters coming to look for her, they battled their first ice, cold demon; literally. As the Power Of Three. After, Mel let them know that this is what their mother would have wanted them to do, that it is their destiny. Agreeing with their sister they let Harry know they were in but when they got back home they decided to communicate with their mother through the Ouija board. The message that she sent them had them worried, scared, and confused:

"DON'T TRUST HARRY."

Overall, I’m not sure how I feel about this new reboot being that it’s only episode one. But, what I can say is that I will continue to watch it because obviously their powers are cool but to see how everything plan out. Do they go through what Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige go through or is it more laid back? Are some of the demons from the original Charmed going to pop up in this one? How strong is their sister bond going to be because I don’t think they can beat the original sister bond? Are they going to be having any kids? Romances? There so many questions that I need answers to and if you don’t watch it because you feel like why would you, you can always read my reviews just to keep you in the loop.
