Could Goku Jr. And Vegeta Jr. Return And Be Made Canon In 'Dragon Ball Super?'

Many Western audiences might be unaware of it, but #DragonBall has been making a huge comeback in Japan with the new hit anime Dragon Ball Super. This show takes place months after the defeat of Majin Buu and 10 years before the official ending of Dragon Ball Z, with Goku and his allies having to face off with a whole new universe of problems.

I have been keeping up with the series in Japan using the English dubbed versions and in the most recent preview for Episode 77 of the series fans get to see one of the most beloved non-canon characters become a reality, sort of.

Even casual fans will know of Broly, who was made famous in a non-canon movie, Dragon Ball Z: Broly — The Legendary Super Saiyan and remains one of the most beloved characters to never be in the manga or anime.

This character is obviously not going to be Broly, but Toriyama's own version of the character. It's still an exciting development for fans and got me thinking about what other characters could Toriyama put his own spin on and put into the main continuity.

This bring me to the universally loathed Dragon Ball GT, which is an anime that Toriyama had a limited say in the story, but still some of the characters might be worth squeezing into the main story.

There are certain GT characters that were fun to watch, like the villains Baby and the Shadow Dragons, but two that I have always loved and enjoyed going back and watching are the great-great grandchildren of Goku and Vegeta — Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr.

How could they fit into 'Super?'

Super takes place before the 10-year time skip of the final episode of Dragon Ball Z, and Goku and Vegeta Jr. are nowhere to be found. So, unless Toriyama would want to retcon them into the story, we probably won't see these two be born before the end of DBZ, but what if Super continued past the original DBZ ending?

There has been speculation that Super could lead up to the DBZ ending and then proceed beyond it to continue the Dragon Ball story even further. Super is making so much money and met with such high reviews that it seems odd to just end it with the show reaching new heights in popularity.

Could the show continue on and Toriyama make both of the Juniors canon in some form or fashion? Whether it be as two more children of both Goku and Vegeta or as their grandchildren?

Why should they be made canon?

For me, the reason I would like to see both the Juniors return is different for each. I hated GT, but I enjoyed the only movie that it produced, Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy. Goku Jr. was an interesting character; he had a passion for fighting like Goku, but was a more caring soul like Gohan. He was essentially both of them rolled into one.

Vegeta Jr. was just a cool concept — a tiny Vegeta with the same kind of attitude. Goku had a son that was identical to him in Goten so why not give Vegeta one too? His character — in the brief time we saw him — seemed to posses a strong passion for martial arts, so I'm sure this would only continue the great Dragon Ball rivalry.

I also imagine them becoming the heirs to Goku and Vegeta if the series goes on long enough. It's probably nothing more then a pipe dream, but it was an interesting thought on a lazy Sunday.
