Could Rob Kardashian's and Blac Chyna's Relationship Get Any Worse?

Revenge Appears to Be on Tap

I have issues with the Kardashian clan on a good day, but even I was incredulous when I realized how bad things were getting, particularly with Rob and his ex Blac Chyna.

There was every sign throughout this sordid relationship that things were not going to go well. There was, first and foremost, the significant public scrutiny. While I understand that there are all sorts of celebrity relationships that receive press attention and that there are plenty that survive the public attention, the pairing of Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna was so seemingly unusual that it was hard not to look at and wonder exactly what he saw in her and what she saw in him.

There was also the extremes to which the two of them would—seemingly daily—profess their undying affection for one another. It was as though they could not let a moment go by without either proclaiming their love for one another via Instagram or through the press. I'm all for love, and I always am a sucker for reasonable public displays of affection and people telling each other that they love them—I think saying just that much and keeping it simple is enough to make most people go, "Awww." But going through Snapchat or Instagram to make daily proclamations about how amazing the other person is and knowing that the information will, despite your protestations that the press shouldn't, ultimately find its way to the media is another matter altogether. Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna appeared to simply be trying far too hard to prove to the world how much they loved each other, and when a couple tries too hard to prove that they are strong, that sometimes means that they are really not that strong after all.

Perhaps what got my attention that this was not the healthiest of relationships was the couple's "revealing" People cover story "How Love Saved Me," featuring Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna. In it, the couple gushes over each other, but looking at the very posed pictures and the claims that the two are very happy, it was reasonably clear, just from the fact that they had the need to pose for People alone, that Rob and Chyna were trying just a little too hard to seem normal. Even that most sedate of couples, older sister Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West, eschewed a People cover story, though they most certainly have found their own fair share of publicity.

Now that Chyna and Rob are history, hope for anything remotely resembling a civil relationship between the two even for their daughter's sake seems to have vanished. Rob jumped on Instagram on July 5 with explicit shots reportedly of Chyna, claiming that she's cheated on him with multiple men—claims that he's made before—and with shots of Chyna reportedly being wheeled in for plastic surgery. He's also said that she's gone out drinking and doing drugs instead of spending time with Dream, the child she shares with Rob Kardashian, or with King Cairo, the child she has with Tyga, Kylie Jenner's ex. Chyna slapped back with allegations that Rob abused her in posts that have since been deleted. Now, Rob's Instagram account has been suspended.

Rob and Chyna have reportedly been broken up for good since around February or March of 2017. Why, then, is Rob still buying her jewelry and cars? Paying to support her mother? Also, if he is doing all these things and Chyna is taking advantage, why is he continuing to do it? According to some lawyers interviewed for the slew of media stories currently running about the latest social media rampage, Rob is running the risk of possibly going to jail for the images he's posted of Chyna.

The thing is, much as people might believe news to the contrary, social media does leave a very permanent imprint on the internet of things you have said and done. It's all right to have an acrimonious breakup, as Chyna and Rob appear to have done, but when you're bringing the battle to the social media landscape, there are bigger issues at play, including what any involved children might see. King Cairo and Dream might be too young at the moment to understand things their mother is reportedly doing, and Dream is also too young to really understand her father right now, but eventually, these two youngsters are going to be coming into a world where they can find out what their parents were like when they were younger with a few keystrokes. Is this really the legacy Rob or Chyna wants to leave?
