As HBO gallops toward the final season of Game of Thrones, it is nearly time to get back in the saddle for Season 8 and start filming the concluding chapter of the saga. Now that the show is "incesting" that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen get it on, two of the most powerful characters may have just formed the most heroic alliance to grace the Seven Kingdoms. However, while new times may be ahead for the Mother of Dragons, it looks like old habits could die hard for the Breaker of Chains.

Wild Horses

Shooting may not get fully underway until next month, but it hasn't stopped HBO setting its massive production wheel in motion and the actors arriving at various filming locations around the world. Hot off the shores of Westeros, the first leaked set picture from Season 8 points to a major Daenerys storyline involving her old friends the Dothraki. An interesting piece of information has appeared from the Belfast Titanic Studios, with a rather large set piece of three Dothraki huts.

We last saw this kind of structure back in Season 6 when Dany was taken to the Vaes Dothrak and memorably torched the sexist Khals. We don't expect the story go back there, so will Season 8 find a new Dothraki homestead toward the North? The show will presumably take Dany and her horde to Winterfell, which currently finds itself covered in a blanket of snow. Some affordable Dothraki housing would come in handy for the wide open spaces outside Winterfell. Lord of Light knows all those bearded brutes won't fit inside the walls of the Stark safe haven.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that Winterfell will play a crucial part in the final season. Now holding the three Stark siblings and being built to withstand an attack, let's hope it lasts a little longer than Eastwatch by the Sea did. How the Dothraki will acclimatize to the cold reception of the North remains to be seen, but they may need to put a shirt on for this one.

Either way, it looks like the Dothraki will continue to fight alongside Dany's dragons as a huge weapon in the Queen's endgame. From being a trophy wife to the Khaleesi, captured as their prisoner and now their ruler, Dany had always shared a bond with those muscular men on horseback. The Dothraki attack on the Lannister forces in Season 7's "The Spoils of War" was easily a highlight of a sometimes uneven season, so we can't wait to see how the horde will aid Daenerys this time around.

Given that the Night King's Army of the Undead is currently marching right toward Team Dany, expect a fair few Dothraki to be running "wight" into death's path, but not without putting up a fight first. For the time being though, all looks well in the realm with Daenerys bolstering her ranks once more and the Dothraki clearly having something to do other than stand there and oil their biceps.
